This is a part of our Creative Collaboration series, where we introduce you to our creative partners from all around the Bay Area. Today, we’re introducing you to Derek Eddy from Purple Orchid Wine Country Resort and Spa. 

Purple Orchid Wine Country Resort and Spa is a boutique resort that serves as a wedding venue, day spa, and olive orchard.

Derek had been a successful photographer since 2004 with his own studio in Las Vegas but he found himself still wanting more out of the event industry. In 2011, Derek and his wife, Rhiannon, packed their lives up and moved to Livermore to fulfill their dream of owning their own wedding venue – thus, the Purple Orchid Wine Country Resort and Spa!

For Derek, it’s his passion as a photographer and venue owner that continues to inspire him each and every day. He can’t get enough of capturing people’s special moments, the love, camaraderie, and friendships from both clients and fellow professional. “There is nothing more special than having a couple say thank you in tears once they view their wedding images,” he shares.

If Derek had a week off, the old world wine scene of France would be calling his name. However, he tells us that chances are he’d end up at Disney World or another place that his 3-year-old prefers!

When working with couples, Derek’s advice is to use professional vendors. “Couples don’t always understand how one unprofessional vendor has the potential to ruin all of their great planning!”
