This is a part of our Creative Collaboration series, where we introduce you to our creative partners from all around the Bay Area. Today, we’re introducing you to Dana Todd of Dana Todd Photography.

Dana Todd is the owner and lead photographer of Dana Todd Photography, a husband and wife team that focuses on documenting the real, un-posed, unscripted moments in our couples lives. Bringing the emotion and feelings of the photos to life by using light and composition to bring the intimate story telling alive.

Dana found her love for photography after her daughter was born, as she wanted to capture as many of those special moments as she could. Soon enough, she was asked to shoot for friends’ events and, one thing led to another, and she found her passion!

We asked Dana about her favorite part about being involved in a wedding:
To see ALL the moments that go unseen. Intimate moments that guests don’t see, emotional moments that can only be seen or felt at the right time. When laughter, tears, emotion and pure joy are bundled into the day, that is when we shine. The details and decor are always beautiful, but at the end of the day, 50 years from now, those moments are what will tell your legacy and story. Getting into and ‘sneaking’ documenting moments when people think nobody is watching, then getting the overly joyful, crying brides responses of how thankful and amazed they are on what we captured that they didn’t see. It is purely amazing.

Dana’s best advice for couples:
Remember why you are getting married. The details, though beautiful, are not as important as the connection you have. Many couples forget during the planning process the reason why this is happening. Slow down during the planning process and take one night a month to go on a date and NOT talk about the wedding. Re connect.

She also shared a bit about booking a photographer:
Really look into your photographer. Don’t budget price on this value. You get what you pay for, and we’ve seen many couples who didn’t book us due to price come back and say their photos and experience were horrible. Make sure you connect with the photos from the photographer. That you connect with them. It’s the one vendor that you literally spend forever with and in intimate moments with. They need to have that relationship established with trust and friendship, so that the couple isn’t afraid to show who they are because there is a ‘camera’ there.

Thank you for sharing, Dana!
