Officially Yours creates and performs custom non-denominational wedding ceremonies that are designed to give the ceremony as much attention as the rest of the “party”. They like to create “benchmark” ceremonies that guests remember as one of the best ceremonies they’ve ever witnessed!

We asked Steve to tell us about what inspired him to pursue a career in weddings and how he got started in the industry.

I started as a DJ in the fledgling years of the DJ-Wedding Industry relationship. During those years, I witnessed a lot of bad or poor wedding ceremonies that were easily forgettable! I always felt that a wedding the ceremony should have purpose, meaning, and standing as it was the ENTIRE reason for the party that followed. Most ceremonies had been reduced to “the price that you had to pay for the open bar!” I felt that I could do it better.

Over the years, we phased out of the music aspect of our business and focused on officiating – bringing with us what we had learned in the entertainment culture. Thus, allowing us to infuse humor, include the guests, and create ceremonies worth remembering.

Steve also shared what his favorite part about being in weddings is.

The “love” exhibited between each couple on what should be one of the best days of their lives.

The positive energy between vendors who easily “gel” to make a seamless “production” on behalf of each couple. (I LOVE it when a “plan comes together”!)

Steve is also sharing the one piece of advice he likes to give couples planning their wedding.

Spend less time on Pinterest or The Knot and create an event that is representative of who they are. Focus on what’s important – the relationship, not the “party”. And, remember, the ceremony is THE reason for the reception following. Make it at least as important as your cake or photobooth.
