Looking Ahead at 2022 Wedding Trends

It’s here, it’s here! The New Year is here and, with it, we’re welcoming a whole slate of 2022 wedding trends fresh for the picking. For our fellow industry pros, you’re well aware that we’re in for a busy year. And for the engaged couples out there, you’re probably in the thick of wedding planning for your 2022 or 2023 wedding.

It’s true — as an industry, we’re still catching up from the countless postponements from the pandemic. Social distancing and restrictions on traveling and mass gatherings had put a damper on many wedding plans. However, with new knowledge about how to mitigate risk and manage COVID-19, weddings are back in full swing again!

2022 wedding trends

Let’s dive into the 2022 wedding trends to know this year…

If you are getting married, involved in planning your friend’s wedding, or simply curious about what’s on the horizon for weddings in 2022, we’ve got you covered. We’re giving you a lowdown on the hottest 2022 wedding trends that will dominate the scene this year and beyond.

Luxury meets comfort

This year, expect many engaged couples to keep the celebration to pared-down perfection! While classic black-tie weddings are definitely here to stay, events will be slightly less formal. Weddings in 2022 will exude a casual, elegant vibe and have a more inviting atmosphere. Think cocktail-style parties with posh food trucks in the vicinity, and the like.

Multiple-day celebrations

As we return to in-person gatherings, it comes as no surprise that engaged couples are putting extra effort into ensuring they create wonderful memories with loved ones at their wedding. As a result, many are planning multi-day experiences to make the most of their celebrations. This gives them more time to mingle and catch up with all of their favorite people outside of the event proper. It also allows them to space out meetings with guests and avoid mass gatherings with too many people.

Domestic destination weddings

Travel continues to be tricky as many countries have adopted stringent requirements for entry and tourism. Thus, you can expect more and more couples to explore beautiful, otherworldly destinations within the country for their celebrations. Not only is it more cost-effective, but it’s also more accessible for guests who are apprehensive of air travel. And this way, everyone can still enjoy some well-deserved respite from daily life without the hassle of international travel.

Weekday nuptials

Weekday weddings have been on the rise in recent years, and they will continue to be prevalent in the coming year due to increased demand. As restrictions loosen up, more and more vendors and venues have found themselves fully booked for weekends through 2022, and even into 2023. Weekday weddings are a great way to avoid traffic or crowds that often swell during the weekends. Not to mention, many couples are impatient to finally tie the knot and a weekday celebration can make it happen!

Countryside vibe

In need of a wedding theme idea? Many couples are finding inspiration from the hit Netflix series, Bridgerton. Expect trailing wisteria, Georgian wedding venues, personalized wax seals, and regency blue color palettes to abound in the wedding scene this coming year. And it comes as no surprise as, after over a year of lockdowns, couples are craving refreshing, outdoorsy weddings.

Technology-infused weddings

Livestreaming, online RSVPs, and QR codes that direct guests to the wedding website: These are just a few of the ways technology is incorporated into this year’s weddings. While quarantine restrictions are loosening in most states, travel may still not be possible or safe for everyone you want at your wedding, whether for health or other reasons. In 2022, couples are embracing technology to bridge the gaps!

These six trends are transforming the industry and the way we plan weddings, so keep an open mind as you embark on the next chapter of your journey to the aisle. Whether you’re nearly there or you’re just starting out, consider how these trends can influence your big day for the better!

Curious to know more about design and experiential trends to make your wedding day unforgettable? We’ve got you covered. Reach out and let us show you how our lighting & entertainment services can provide you with the modern, on-trend celebration of your dreams.

Happy New Year!

2022 is just around the corner, and we are all set to celebrate! We hope you’re taking the next few days to celebrate the New Year in style: surrounded by loved ones, good food, and fun festivities. So without further ado, Happy New Year from the team at Fantasy Sound!

Happy New Year 2022

P.S. Did you know that champagne became a New Year’s drink of choice thanks to good, old-fashioned marketing? Doesn’t make it any less enjoyable to pop a bottle of bubbly, though — cheers to that!

Adam Clark, Adam J. Clark Photography {Creative Partner Spotlight}

This week, we’re highlighting the owner and lead photographer of Adam J. Clark Photography… Adam Clark, himself!

You may recognize Adam’s name from the gorgeous photos of his that we’ve shared on our blog and social media. He’s truly a visionary behind the lens, and we love collaborating with him to bring our clients’ events to life!

Let’s see what Adam Clark has to share!

adam clark

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

I have long had a passion for art, specifically photography. When I was young I was fascinated by my Grandfather’s Nikomat camera. My closest childhood friend’s father had what I thought was the coolest camera and case. I loved all the gear and gadgets that went into creating images with a camera.

As a little kid, I recall having an old Kodak Brownie in my toy collection and then on my 8th birthday I received a Kodak Instamatic. To be honest I believe I may have been a little disappointed. I had a camera, it was old, but I had one I think I was lobbying more for a BB gun on that birthday. However this gift turned out to inspire me.

Years later my father sold the family station wagon and took the proceeds and purchased my family’s first 35 mm camera. That did it, I was hooked! I took that camera everywhere and probably cost my father a ton in film and processing taking images of anything and everything. Then came time for my senior portraits, something that I had looked forward to for years. This is what turned my interest to portraiture. I loved the whole process.

After graduating high school I attended college thinking I would one day work towards an engineering degree. This seemed like a logical idea. In reality I wanted to be a photographer but in my head I thought, “That’s not a job, it’s a fantasy. Being a photographer isn’t a career it’s a hobby. Being an engineer, that’s a career.” I was right and wrong, being a photographer is a fantasy and not a real job, but it is a career. It is the fantasy, non-real job, that has been my career for nearly 25 years!

Anyway, after college I attended the Art Institute of Seattle and I earned a degree in Commercial Photography. After graduation I was fortunate to find a part-time job with a local photo studio, Crawford’s Photography in Redmond, WA. Here I learned my craft, and my passion for photography and portraiture grew. I was able to meet wonderful people that turned into fantastic clients and friends. I was given the opportunity to get to know and document their lives through my portraiture. I have clients that I photographed as babies, then high school seniors, then weddings and then their babies. It is a mind-blowing experience that I so very much cherish! I went on to run, manage and eventually own the Studio. This was my only job, career, fantasy until I started Adam J. Clark Photography.

In my down time I love spending time with my dog, visiting with family and friends around the country, SCUBA diving, running, skiing, hiking and staying fit. I also very much love to visit Hawaii, and live the Aloha spirit. Currently I am based out of Livermore, CA. However I am available on the Big Island of Hawaii. Again, thank you so much for visiting my web site. I hope we have the opportunity to meet and I hope you will consider me for all your portrait and photographic needs. I love what I do and I am dedicated to making your portraits a unique and special work of art, worthy of viewing by future generations.

What do you love about your job?

I love meeting people, making them happy and being exposed to different cultures and traditions.

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

Be on time and listen to the professionals. We are here to help take advantage of our knowledge, that more than one I know LOL

We are big Adam Clark fans at Fantasy Sound and we’re always looking forward to the next time we get to work with him. Cheers to you, Adam!

New Press: Popped! | Holiday Proposals

With the holidays upon us, we loved seeing Kevin’s latest feature on Popped! as he speaks to planning meaningful holiday proposals!

According to The Knot, peak proposal season falls between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day with 40% (!!) of engagements taking place between November and February. The most popular days are, of course, for holiday proposals:

  • Christmas Day
  • Christmas Eve
  • Valentine’s Day
  • New Year’s Day
  • New Year’s Eve
  • Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving behind us, we are in the early stages of engagement season — and we can already feel the excitement brewing in the wedding industry!

So this feature on Popped! is a timely roundup if you’re considering popping the question in the next few months. Read it here.

popped - holiday proposals

Here’s a tidbit from the article, as Kevin suggests how to celebrate holiday proposals:

Kevin Dennis of Fantasy Sound Event Services says, “One of the best things about planning a proposal around the holidays is that your family and friends will likely already be in town, so you can organize a celebration fairly easy without drawing suspicion. Whether you choose to hold an impromptu engagement party or pop the question during a holiday get-together, you’ll be able to make the occasion even more special by having your loved ones involved.”

winter weddings

4 Reasons We Love Winter Weddings

Winter is quite a romantic season, making it perfect for saying “I do.” There’s no better time for couples to cozy up by a fire, go ice skating, or enjoy a lovely evening stroll. Here in California, we all love a little winter coziness and are complete suckers for dreamy winter weddings!

winter weddings

Whether you’re still deciding on your wedding season or you’re eagerly anticipating a wintry celebration of your own, here are some of our favorite things about winter weddings!

You can get creative with your menu.

Whether you’re going for a grand affair with hundreds of guests or prefer to keep the celebration small and intimate, food and drinks should never be overlooked when planning your wedding!

What’s great about winter weddings is that you don’t have to limit attendees to the usual chicken or beef options. The cold weather means anything goes—as long as it’s hot! You can get more creative with the menu by serving crowd-pleasing comfort foods and seasonal cocktails and beverages. Hearty soups, stews, classic mac and cheese, spiked apple cider, hot cocoas, and mulled wine are all worth considering.

You get your pick of some beautiful color palettes.

Who said winter weddings had to be boring or monochromatic? Couples often add touches of deep jewel tones such as red, burgundy, navy blue, and emerald green in their decorations. They add an element of elegance, and are quite a sight when paired with metallic accents! And with or without snow, the rich colors make a striking contrast against the overall grayness of the weather.

A winter wedding also never fails to create a romantic and cozy vibe. If you want to set a homey, inviting mood on your big day, you can add touches of rich browns and tans to evoke campfires and snug log cabins.

You will have more vendor availability with less budget.

Your wedding is one of the most important days in your life, and we know you want to create the most magical, memorable celebration possible. The vendors you pick can make or break your event, so it’s vital to put a lot of careful thought into choosing them! In the winter, vendors have more availability, so you’ll have a better chance at creating your dream team.

And of course, you also need to consider your budget because you don’t want to dip into your long-term savings or go into debt planning your wedding. Luckily, you have a good shot at booking highly-rated, sought-after vendors, and snagging their services at a lower rate! Why? Because winter is “off-season” in the wedding industry, so you’ll often see a drop in prices. It’s almost too good to be true!

Your guests will be eager to join.

Many couples choose to say their “I do’s” during the summer. By hosting yours in the winter, you don’t have to worry about competing with other weddings or summer vacations! Plus, most of your guests will likely have additional time off for the holidays, so it won’t take much convincing to extend their breaks to accommodate your wedding. It’ll be much easier to get all of your favorite people in the world together for the celebration of the season!

As they say, winter is the most wonderful time of the year! If a wintry wonderland wedding is in your sights, you’re making a great choice. Enjoy your wedding preparations!

vendor cancellations - weddingwire

New Press: WeddingWire – Vendor Cancellations

Last-minute wedding vendor cancellations sound like a nightmare, right? It certainly isn’t the ideal situation. Rest assured that the rest of your event team knows what to do — especially your wedding planner.

Kevin chimed in on this topic for a roundup on WeddingWire alongside a number of other wedding experts.

vendor cancellation - weddingwire

Kevin’s take on vendor cancellations:

“Your planner will help you find a replacement in the blink of an eye. This is what they have been hired to do and will handle it quickly and professionally. They may even consider the vendor team you already have, and one of them might be the solution to the problem.”

7 Wedding Traditions to Know and Love

Engaged couples are not the only ones excited for their big day—so are their loved ones! During the planning stage, your family and close friends will often offer suggestions on how to make the festivities more meaningful and memorable. While it is ultimately up to you and your partner how your event will go, many wedding traditions are worth exploring if they feel right for both of you.

If you want to learn more, this blog will round up some of the more interesting wedding customs you can consider for your celebration.

Without further ado, let’s jump right into some favorite wedding traditions!

wedding traditions

Bouquet and Garter Toss

This is one of the most popular wedding traditions out there, but how does it work? For the bouquet toss, the single women in attendance attempt to catch the bouquet tossed by the bride. Whoever succeeds is believed to be the next to marry. For the garter toss, the groom goes under the bride’s gown to remove her leg garter, which he tosses to a group of eager bachelors. The person who caught the garter, in turn, places it on the leg of the one who caught the bouquet.

Door Games

If you’re looking for an exciting and lighthearted wedding tradition, door games are perfect for your celebration. For many Chinese couples, these games are a must on the morning of their wedding day. It revolves around the groom proving his worth and dedication to the bride by working hand-in-hand with his groomsmen to surpass a series of tests and challenges prepared by her bridesmaids. This activity will surely elicit lots of smiles and laughter from participants and spectators alike!

Releasing of Doves

Commonly practiced in Filipino weddings, a pair of male and female doves are released at the end of the ceremony to represent the couple’s desire for a harmonious relationship, as they symbolize unity and peace. Doves are also known to mate for life! It’s perfect for those who want to create a romantic, meaningful ending to their wedding.

The Sugar Cube

Greek brides typically tuck a sugar cube into their glove or bouquet on their wedding day, as it’s believed to bring the couple happiness in their new life together. So if you want to sweeten your marriage, it wouldn’t hurt to follow their lead!

Parent Dances

Looking for a special way to pay tribute to your parents on your wedding day? How about a traditional father-daughter and mother-son dance? Couples can also choose to share this sweet moment with other cherished family members, like grandparents, step-parents, godparents, siblings, aunts, or uncles.

Money Dances

The money dance is customary in many cultures. In exchange for a dance, guests pin bills onto the bride or groom’s clothing with good wishes. This long-standing wedding tradition serves to usher in wealth and prosperity in the couple’s marriage. Additionally, it’s a fun and interactive way for the couple to spend some time with their wedding guests!

Carrying the Bride Over the Threshold

In the Middle Ages, people believed that evil spirits lived on the threshold of new homes and would attack brides through the soles of their feet. Therefore, the groom carried his bride across the threshold to protect her. Today, it’s a romantic way to whisk the bride away from the party as they begin their new life together.

These are just a few of the wedding traditions you can incorporate into your special day. Of course, you can follow these old customs or start some of your own—feel free to mix it up! Ultimately, the most important thing is for your wedding to feel meaningful to you and your partner.

4 Tips for Planning Your Event Floor Plan

It’s easy to get caught up in beautiful design and aesthetics when planning your wedding. However, it is essential not to lose sight of the logistical side of it — namely, your floor plan. After all, how can you enjoy all of the lovely decor if guests are packed together like sardines and caterers are getting jammed up on their serving routes?

A great floor plan allows everyone sit comfortable and mingle as they please, while ensuring event staff can move through the space without issue. Here are four key considerations when mapping out your wedding floor plan.

Know your guest list.

Your headcount is one of the most essential factors to keep in mind when creating your floor plan. Consult with your venue coordinator, as they typically have sample floor plans on-hand based on their space. Don’t forget to consider your guests’ needs, as well. If you have guests with wheelchairs or elderly folks who need a little more space to get in and out of their seats, be sure to seat them in an area that is easily accessible from the restrooms, bar, and buffet (if present).

Determine entertainment choices.

Your choice of entertainment will dictate how flexible you can be with your floor plan, as a venue’s capacity must factor in elements like photo booths, lounge spaces, interactive food stations, and the like. Be mindful that bands typically take up much more room than a DJ (don’t forget about staging and sound equipment!), so keep your venue’s measurements close as you research and create your entertainment plan.

Decide on seating arrangements.

Consider how you want to sit with your partner, as well as how you plan to seat your guests. If you want a head table with your whole wedding party, your floor plan will look different than if you opt for a two-person sweetheart table. The same goes for seating guests at banquet tables vs. round tables. In your seating plan, use the dance floor as the focal point as that’s where the action happens. Do your best to ensure all guests in the room have a good sightline of the dance floor.

Be mindful of COVID guidelines.

Last but certainly not least, keep COVID safety in mind as you prepare your floor plan. Adhere to proper social distancing guidelines to ensure your guests feel safe and comfortable. Identify the high traffic areas—like service routes and bars—and be sure to allow for plenty of space. Consider seating guests in household “pods” with a greater number of smaller tables. Be sure to work alongside your venue coordinator to ensure it will work in their space.

New Press: Woman Getting Married

The wedding industry runs on trends. Kevin shared insight with Woman Getting Married about the shifts he has seen in the industry. particularly when it comes to wedding venues!

Woman Getting Married

Kevin speaks to the growing trend of securing a single venue for a couple’s ceremony and reception. In the past, many couples have booked separate venues. However, the convenience and cost-effectiveness of sticking to one venue wins out!

The future of wedding trends looks bright. Check out the full feature for more advice from wedding experts!

Tipping Etiquette for Wedding Vendors

When planning your big day, it’s easy to get lost in the madness and forget about tipping your wedding vendors. But it’s so important to be respectful of their time and efforts, so it’s best to include gratuity in your wedding budget!

Although tipping is not required, some vendors may expect it — and likely deserve it. It is a great way to thank them for their superb service bringing your wedding day to life!

If you need guidance on whom to tip and how much to give, read on.

tipping

Tipping Etiquette 101

Here’s a breakdown of gratuity to include for each wedding vendor.

Officiant

Many ordained clergy members won’t accept cash tips for officiating wedding ceremonies. However, a donation to their church or religious institution is greatly appreciated. For a non-religious officiant, you can give them around $50.

Photographer and videographer

A lot of these vendors are business owners themselves, so tipping is often unnecessary. But if you’re incredibly happy with their work, feel free to give a generous tip of up to $100 (or more if you’re that satisfied!). If they have assistants or second-shooters, you can tip them anywhere from $50 to $75.

Caterer and waitstaff

While a service fee is often stipulated in your contract, this amount is typically divided amongst all the waitstaff. It’s a kind gesture to give them $10 to $20 each for their hard work. If bartending services aren’t part of your caterer’s package, tip 10% to 15% of the pre-tax bar bill.

Hair and Makeup Artists

Just as you would for a regular hair or makeup appointment, tip makeup artists and hairstylists 20% of the total bill.

Musicians and DJs

A tip between $25 and $50 per person is customary. And, if you book a band, remember to tip their sound technician as well!

Driver, Valet, Restroom, and Coat Check Attendants

If gratuity is not yet included in your transportation bill, tip your driver 15-20% of the total cost. For valet attendants, express your gratitude by tipping $1-2 per car, to be divided among them. And for the total amount to be allocated for your restroom and coat check attendants, multiply the number of guests by $0.50 to $2.

Wedding planner and florist

Since these vendors are typically business owners, they won’t be expecting a tip from you. If you are feeling generous, feel free to tip your wedding planner 10-20% of the total bill, or up to $500. Your florist may be tipped 10-15% of your total bill. If you prefer, you can also give them personal gifts instead.

Delivery Personnel

On your wedding day, you can expect a lot of deliveries—from your rentals to your wedding cake and flowers. Leave cash envelopes containing $5 to $10 to your coordinator or catering manager to hand out to delivery personnel.

Keep in mind that these numbers are only meant to serve as a guide. Ultimately, you should tip according to what your budget permits and the level of service you’ve received.

Make the Most of Your Wedding Photo Booth

Adding a photo booth to your wedding is a wonderful way to enhance the guest experience with an interactive element that is sure to keep people engaged all night long. Plus, it’s a fun way to send everyone home with tokens from your big day. (Not to mention, you’ll have all the fun photos to look back on with your partner!)

photo booth

If you’re booking a photo booth for your special day, be sure to make the most of it with these tips!

Match your photo booth to your wedding theme.

Whether you’re hosting a black-tie gala-inspired bash or a rustic-chic celebration, your photo booth should be on-brand with the rest of your wedding decor! Consider how you can infuse your wedding theme into the backdrop, as well as the print photos. Most printouts can include a customizable monogram with your wedding date for an extra splash!

Provide plenty of photo booth props.

What’s a photo booth without props? Providing guests with silly props encourages them to really lean into the experience! From goofy accessories (like bowties and hats) to funny signs, don’t be shy! Many photo booth providers will include a set of props, but feel free to bring your own cheekiness to play and add your own touch.

Give guests a way to show off their pics.

There’s a good chance that your wedding photo booth will be a popular station for the whole night, so there will be plenty of great pictures coming from it! Consider creating a space for guests to post a copy of their photo strips. A frame with hanging clothespins, a chalkboard with magnets, or a pretty photo album are all great choices! Your guests will be able to flip through and see what everyone else has done. Plus, you’ll get to take those keepsakes home!

A memorable guest experience is all about engaging attendees with interactive elements, and photo booths are one of the best ways to do just that! Ready, set, cheese!

Fall Wedding Trends to Know in 2021

With autumn in the air, it’s time to shift our summer mindsets to appreciate the beauty of a picture-perfect fall wedding.

fall wedding

Cooler temps, falling leaves, and a whole new vibe to work with make it easy to host a fall wedding to remember! Here are the key trends to know as we head into the harvest season.

Rich color palettes

Burgundy, gold, orange, brown, purple — many couples find inspiration for their fall wedding in nature and we are here for it! Paired with lush greenery, wood textures, and other natural elements, using a fall-themed color palette makes for a lovely design. Consider using some soft uplighting or dynamic gobo washes to add an extra special touch that levels up the vibe.

Cozy bonfires

With the pandemic lingering, outdoor weddings remain the go-to choice for engaged couples in 2021. And what’s a fall wedding without a roaring bonfire to gather ’round? Perfect for roasting marshmallows, sipping hot cocoa, and cozying up with loved ones! Consider adding some soft textures to the seating arrangement. Think chunky knit blankets or cashmere scarves for guests — a sweet way to show your guests a great time.

Weekday weddings

Thanks to a year’s worth of postponed events, the industry is experiencing a wedding boom keeping calendars packed for months. For those wanting to tie the knot in the near future, weekday weddings have become an excellent way to fit their nuptials into a busy schedule! It’s not just convenient, though. Weekday weddings are also a cost-effective alternative to the average weekend wedding. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to extend your celebration into the weekend with group activities for guests who want to stick around!

Micro-nuptials

Less is more; at least, that’s how it’s trending in the wedding industry! Couples are trimming down their guest lists and, with it, realizing the possibilities that open up with a smaller wedding. Since your budget goes further with fewer guests, you can invest more into the elements that matter most. Unique venues, upgraded food + beverage choices, elevated design + décor, and more face time with guests — there are many benefits to micro-weddings!

Be still our hearts — our starburst chandelier really showed out for this sweet Indian wedding at Casa Real!

A custom monogrammed dance floor. Floor-to-ceiling taffeta drapery behind a mandap bursting with blooms. A glittering starburst chandelier to catch everyone’s eye. Lush centerpieces bursting with bold colors. These are the ingredients for a wedding dream come true!

5 Safety Tips for Planning a Wedding During COVID

With weddings coming back, it’s important to remember that COVID isn’t quite behind us just yet. Yet, with vaccinations rising, masks worn, and social distancing in place, we can still party as safely as possible. Follow these five safety tips to ensure your guests’ health and safety are a top priority while planning a wedding during COVID.

wedding during covid

Featuring: Chiffon Drapery + Uplighting

Offer masks at the entrance

Masks — but make it fashion. Everyone feels differently about COVID risks, so it’s best to respect their comfort levels and provide them with the resources they need to feel safe. Consider offering wedding-themed masks to guests at the entrance for those who prefer to remain masked while out of their seats. Bonus: They’ll make for some fun, memorable photo ops!

Choose the right serving style

To prioritize health and safety, skip the buffets, lavish grab-and-go spreads, and family-style platters. Instead, opt for plated meals, food stations (with socially distanced lines!), and individual servings of dessert. Don’t forget to get creative! Think how excited guests will be to receive a sweet treat in a laser-engraved acrylic box or step up to have it handmade right in front of them.

Split up the floorplan

What’s better than a dance floor? Multiple dance floors! Breaking up the elements in your floor plan is a great way to let people mix and mingle at their own comfort level. With several smaller dance floors, lounge areas, and bars, guests won’t feel pressured to be in a crowd if they’re not feeling it. You’ll be able to float from spot to spot, taking in the unique vibes created throughout by your guests.

Set up sanitizing stations

One of the best ways to keep people safe is to include hand sanitizing stations throughout the event — particularly at any high-touch points, like at the entrance, at the bar, on the way to the dance floor, and just outside the restrooms.

Get creative with signage

When you’re having a blast, it’s easy to forget about COVID precautions. Why not add some friendly reminders throughout? Have some fun with signage to remind guests about social distancing, point out the sanitizer station, and offer up masks for grabs. Everybody loves a good pun, so don’t be afraid to get cheeky!

Whether you’ve downsized your guest list or not, you can still have the party of your dreams. Just be sure to use these safety tips that you are building in ways to keep your guests comfortable and safe while planning a wedding during COVID.

Photo of the Day: Celestial Beauty

We have stars in our eyes for this stunning celestial-themed wedding! Love you to the moon and back? Sure, but it should be more like “love you to the galaxies and beyond.”

This gorg design features our geometric drop chandeliers, geometric diamond chandeliers, white wall palette, a sweet gobo wash, and beautiful earth tone florals. Above all, the minimal vibe pairs beautifully with the celestial-themed seating chart hanging amidst all the blooms. *swoon*

Selecting a Wedding Date: Pros + Cons of Each Season

Welcome to your wedding planning journey! The first box you need to check off is to choose your ideal wedding date. With that, you’ll be free to book your venue, photographer, and other important vendors and create a plan to ensure everything falls in the right place at the right time. Plus, the season of your wedding will influence your theme and color palette! Not to mention, this important date will stick with you for the rest of your life (hello, anniversary!).

Needless to say, your wedding date determines everything from the food you serve to the type of lighting design you use. Yet, every season offers its own set of pros and cons, so it’s important to put some thought behind your choice.

With all the beauty and uniqueness each season offers, let’s weigh out your options.

SPRING: March, April, and May

Robin Williams once said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying let’s party!” — we couldn’t agree more! Flowers are blossoming, birds are singing, and it feels like everything is waking up from hibernation.

Spring is a wonderful season to get married and, naturally, one that is highly coveted. After all, nothing beats the natural beauty spring offers! From fragrant cherry blossoms to delicate peonies, the soft colors of spring will make your wedding feel like the enchanted love story fairytales are made of. Picture being surrounded by pastel colors mixed with earth tones and all the florals you can imagine. #LOVE!

Logistics-wise, spring is a great time to celebrate your wedding as most people are in town. The holidays are in the rearview mirror, but summer is still to come — your wedding day will be a day your guests eagerly await! Since many people aren’t traveling, expect those RSVPs to come in left and right.

Keep in mind, though: Spring can be unpredictable when it comes to weather. In some parts of the country, it’s not unlikely to see snow in April or a sunny 80-degree day in March. Plus, you know what they say about April showers! And, of course, spring is allergy season which can present challenges for some if planning at an outdoor venue.

SUMMER: June, July, August

Ah, summer. Longer days mean more time to party! Whether you choose to have your wedding at the beach or an outdoor garden space, there is no need to rush. The sun will hold it down for you late into the day!

The food menu tends to be more fun in the summer, too! Get creative with cheeses, fruits, hors d’oeuvres, and drinks. Imagine roasting some ‘mallows at a bonfire as the perfect nightcap to your big day with your loved ones!

Into vibrant colors like coral or fuchsia? Go crazy with it! Summer weddings can accommodate any vision, and rest assured, you’ll have the flowers that you are looking for as well. That summer Pinterest wedding board can become your reality!

Now, keep in mind that most event pros book up quickly for the summer, so you will need to get the ball rolling early to ensure you have ample time to get your first choice vendors. (Also, don’t expect any wiggle room in pricing!) Summer is also the busiest season for travel — so don’t expect a 100% RSVP rate as your friends and family may already have vacations planned. Again, starting your planning journey early will help to give people enough time to plan in advance.

And let’s not forget about the heat! Consider the time of the day everything is taking place, especially if your wedding will be outdoors. The heat can be distracting and even dangerous, so be mindful of your guests’ comfort as well as your own!

FALL: September, October, November

Fall is a great time to say “I do” with a beautiful natural backdrop and favorable weather. If you are dreaming of the perfect rustic wedding, or love moody hues of deep purples, reds, and bronze, fall is for you. Want weather dependability? You guessed it; fall is perfect!

One big autumn perk is that vendors tend to be more available! Plus, as the industry heads into the off-season in most areas, rates may start to lower. Sticking to your budget is vital, and a fall wedding could potentially add a bit more spare change to your pocket. Maybe you can book a videographer after all!

Like all good things, fall presents a few challenges of its own. For one, it’s possible that your guests are tight on funds after a summer of vacations and the holiday season just around the corner. It’s possible your headcount isn’t as long as you hope.

Plus, consider that you will lose extra daylight as it gets later in the season. Though an evening fall can be cozy, you might have to adjust your photo schedule and accept that certain pictures may not be feasible. But, hey, you get pictures with all of that gorgeous foliage, so that’s a win in our book!

WINTER: December, January, February

Dreaming of a white Christmas doesn’t come close to the magical feeling of a beautiful winter wonderland wedding. The rich dark reds, blues, and silvers will make your wedding gleam with elegance!

Not to mention, a Winter wedding with fresh snow makes for lovely pictures. No snow? No problem! A photo by the fireplace wrapped in a blanket with your beloved captures the intimacy and eloquence of your big day. A winter wedding is all about getting creative and leaning into the seasonal beauty!

Another winter wedding perk? The dessert bar! Bring on the mulled cider and hot cocoa bar; lay out all the comfort snacks and drinks. Turn the cozy comfort level up to the max!

Keep in mind, though, winter weddings don’t come without the risk of a weather postponement. A sprinkle of snow is usually welcomed, but nobody wants to see feet of snow on their wedding day!

Another challenge to consider: You might have to compete with the holidays. Your guests might be using their time off to visit relatives, or their budget might be tight. Plan accordingly and give your guests grace if they choose to decline your big day.

The big takeaway here is that, no matter the season you choose, you can have the perfect wedding day of your dreams! Each season offers a unique vibe, but they also come with their own challenges. Be sure to weigh them out before making your final decision. Once you choose, lean into your season and have fun with all the possibilities!

Colored Lighting: How to Do it Right

Colored lighting is one of the best ways to elevate your wedding. It can set the mood for your ceremony, and help transition your teary-eyed guests to the reception for a time of intimacy and fun!

Whether you choose gobos, uplights, spotlights, or other elements, colored lighting will complement the decor, making it feel more luxurious and well planned around your venue. But, when it comes to colored lighting, there is such a thing as too much. Less is more!

Why choose colored lighting for your wedding?

Choosing a lighting design that meshes with your color palette adds dimension to your event and ties everything together with a neat bow. It has a way of highlighting your wedding space and amping up the dramatic effect — perfect for wowing your guests! #JawDrop

When picking your go-to shades, there are a few ways to play around with them. Say your color palette is pink and white. You can have fun with those colors in your lighting design as-is, or you can select hues that complement them — like champagne, gold, or even a bold shade of raspberry.

Before making your final choice, be sure to consider your venue’s existing lighting during the time of day for your event. Speak to your lighting and A/V team to confirm that your desired look will be possible given the setting. For example, it might be hard to achieve a deep, intimate feel in a space with floor-to-ceiling windows for a midday brunch!

Evening events can typically accommodate all of your lighting expectations, with colored effects creating a natural ambiance that is perfect for soft and moody photos.

What to avoid with colored lighting

We’re big fans of color. Everybody appreciates the splendor of a big and bold rainbow. But when it comes to your wedding, there is such a thing as too much!

Avoid going overboard with colors — both in the numbers of shades you choose and in the number of areas you use them. Overdoing it with color or mismatching your shades can spoil your perfect design.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with color, but that’s not an excuse to go rogue! Form your vision and take it to your lighting professional — they will be ready to help you bring it to life without going too far.

How to get your lighting design right

So, how do you get your lighting just right? Keep it simple! Using soft, matchable colors like champagne, blush, and amber, ensures that you can mesh them beautifully with any color palette. On the other hand, try to avoid the louder colors of the rainbow, like orange or red, which can make the space feel too busy.

And, of course, hiring a professional lighting company is the best way to ensure your vision comes to life with the taste and elegance you deserve! There’s no need to compromise your dream, so let the experts take over and accent the right areas with the right hues to make a statement.

At the end of the day, colored lighting is all about enhancing the venue’s aesthetic and tying it into your wedding theme. If you are going to look perfect on your big day, shouldn’t your venue do the same? Go ahead and add the color — but be mindful of how it fits in with your design. Like everything else in life, balance is key!

The Perfect Order to Book Wedding Vendors

You heard, “will you marry me?” and you said “YES!” Fireworks went off, and now, wedding bells are ringing in the distance. Dry those happy tears and get ready because it’s time to plan and execute. Yes, PLAN and EXECUTE! Don’t worry, the “I do” will come — but, first, you need to find your wedding vendors!

Planning a wedding is like working on a jigsaw puzzle. Everybody has their own way of putting it together, but it involves the same pieces to achieve the same result. You must hire a team of vendors who can produce the wedding of your dreams — but how you go about that will depend on your vision!

wedding vendors

Though, no matter how you work on that puzzle, you have to employ some type of strategy to mitigate the madness. Likewise, your wedding planning process must follow a strategy. As you research and book your wedding vendors, follow this order to keep your journey to the aisle as simple and efficient as possible.

1. Venue

Selecting your venue is the top priority. Some venues come with in-house services, which can influence the rest of the wedding vendors you need to hire. Plus, it can free up your wedding planning time, since you will know what is offered by booking there. #OneStopShop!

Side note: It is good to have an idea of your maximum guest count. This number can help serve as a tie-breaker if one venue can accommodate your guest better than the other contender.

Also, by choosing your venue, you are officially SETTING YOUR DATE! Once the date is set, the countdown begins. Cheers to that!

2. Wedding Planner

Although some couples choose not to hire a planner, we recommend it! Apart from taking many tasks off your plate, a wedding planner can truly help bring your dream day to life. Their years of experience and knowledge can guide you in areas where you aren’t so well-versed.

If your venue does not provide an assigned wedding planner, book one next. Remember: The clock is ticking! Hand them the pressure of lining up all your vendors, so you can sit back and approve. Talk about the good life!

3. Photographer + Videographer

Locking in your photographer and videographer is third on this list for two reasons:

  1.  Photographers and videographers book out far in advance. You need to get on their calendar ASAP!
  2. You will need to do your engagement shoot months before the wedding for save-the-dates, your website, pre-wedding video shoot, etc.

You also need to make sure that you get along well with your photographer and videographer. You’ll be spending a lot of time with them on your big day! Make sure you give yourself ample time to find the right person that will see your vision and capture the perfect moment for you!

4. Florist

We see all those flower arrangements you’ve been pinning on your Pinterest board! Spoiler alert: You’ll need a professional to replicate those looks. Booking your florist in advance will allow them to ensure they understand your vision to design and conceptualize the wedding style you want.

You’ll also want to talk to your florist in advance to make sure the flowers you wish to have are available. Peonies are beautiful, but they don’t bloom year-round. Your florist will be able to recommend similar flowers if it comes down to it.

5. Caterer + Rentals

It’s tough to choose between hors d’oeuvres: cocktail shrimp shooters, meat skewers, or mini sliders? All of the above? If your chosen venue does not provide catering, this is next on the list. Keep in mind the time it will take to finalize your menu. You don’t want this part to slip through the cracks!

Because caterers and rental companies tend to work closely, you might be able to knock this out in one step (fingers crossed). If not, book both caters and rentals simultaneously.

Side note:  Before signing anything, make sure that they can travel to your venue. And be sure to give them the proper headcount!

6. Lighting + DJ

Be sure to give yourself time to find that DJ that understands your vibe and can deliver on the dance floor. Come ready with your desired playlist (or, at least, some ideas!) and ask for suggestions. Be sure to check out our previous blog about asking your DJ the right questions!

If you are dreaming of glamorous chandeliers and elaborate gobo light washes, this is also the right time to get your lighting situated. It’s your day and you deserve perfection!

7. Stationer

If you’re planning on booking a professional stationer for custom invitations and other paper goods, plan on getting in contact with them at least eight weeks before your save-the-dates are to be sent out. In the average planning process, this typically falls right at the halfway point.

8. Baker

Wedding cakes need some lead time to create something beautiful and delicious, but not quite so much as your caterer. Some bakers will only take a certain amount of clients per week, so booking them with enough time never hurts! Oh, and don’t forget to schedule your cake tasting as well — what a wedding perk!

9. Hair + Makeup

If you plan to get your hair and makeup done professionally, do not forget to book your artist(s) in advance! You will need to prepare for at least one trial run to ensure you get your desired outcome. Remember: Your time is accounted for, and like everything else, this will pull you away from other tasks. Include it in your plans!

So, let’s plan this wedding! With the right plan and strategy in place, it’s completely doable. To revisit our puzzle metaphor, just think about how satisfying it will be after you’ve put all the pieces together and can see the grand masterpiece unfold beautifully right before your eyes.

elegance

Photo of the Day: Bountiful Elegance

Boy, do we have a photo to share with you today! This gorgeous floral arrangement encircling our 16-candle crystal chandelier exudes elegance and class, and we are HERE for it! *swoon*

With lush white and pink flowers, subtle touches of greenery, and glass + crystals dripping from all around, we think this fixture really dressed up Casa Real to the nines. Add some sweet chiffon drapery, extra greenery, and a sweetheart table bursting with blooms; sounds like a wedding day to remember, huh?

videography

Is Videography Worth the Cost?

Imagine you spend months (or even years) planning the wedding of your dream just for the day to be over in the blink of an eye. All the emotions, key memorable moments, dances (the flower girl was running down the aisle making everybody laugh!), all of it gone with the wind. Just think: If a picture can say a thousand words, how much more does a video that captures it all? Rest assured, videography is one thing you don’t want to exclude from your budget!

The truth is that couples barely remember anything from their wedding day. The whole day is a whirlwind, filled with things to do and people to talk to all day.

With all of your time spent taking photos or greeting guests one by one, is it really possible to soak it in and remember it all? Everybody plays a vital role on your wedding day and videographers understand the role of telling the story of YOUR day, so you get a lifelong heirloom.

Here’s what you get from videography services at your wedding:

You’ll see things you never saw.

Your videographer will not be glued to your hip like your photographer. While you’re busy getting the perfect sunset picture, your videographer is going to town, recording the special moments with the people celebrating your love with you. You’ll get to relive the moments all over again and see the little things that you missed while you were busy.

Your videographer will float throughout the event, capturing moments between guests, the dance floor, bouquet toss — you get the picture. They’ll get everything on camera!  With only two eyes, there is only so much you can see on your wedding day. A cherished video that captures the many angles of your day will let you appreciate your special day as often as you’d like.

You’ll have an extra set of hands on site.

Although videographers spend most of their time on-site shooting, they are readily available to support other vendors when they’re not. Like every person working at your wedding, a videographer knows it is all about you!

If an extra set of hands is needed to make your wedding perfect, they will jump in and help. Ultimately, if everything is marching to the beat of your tune, your video will be replaying the melody of your heart (cue in heart emojis!),

You’ll have memories for life.

Photos are lifelong keepsakes, but what are lights and cameras without some action? There’s nothing quite like footage that captures every step, every smile, and every kiss. Nothing beats hearing your vows in real-time, the crinkles on your nose during the wedding speech, or your uncle lighting up the dance floor. Now, imagine listening to your future grandchildren giggle at your inside jokes — isn’t that the sweetest sound?

With your big day coming and going so fast, holding onto every moment is challenging.. Your video will be the perfect evidence that your wedding day was as real and magical as your love. You don’t want to skip out on reliving your special day for all the years to come, trust!

Balancing Wedding Planning with Life’s Demands

You’re engaged! Congrats! Soak it in because it just got real — yes, the wedding planning just got real. We get the pressures and demands that planning a wedding requires. We also understand that juggling a career while planning said wedding can be extra stressful. From touring venues, visiting wedding expos, attending food and cake tastings, and then responding to endless work emails — is 24 hours in a day enough?

Now, the objective is not to scare you but to help you. We have compiled a few tips that’ll kick off the wedding planning journey!

wedding planning

Keep work and wedding planning completely separate.

Don’t try to work on wedding stuff while you are in the office. Consider this a rule of thumb. We get it; it’s just an email here, a quick Google search there, but like all things: wedding planning deserves your undivided attention the same way your career does.

Consider using your lunchtime to tackle those small tasks like sending that email to your potential vendor. You don’t want to send the wrong email to the incorrect person (or distro list — yikes!).  You also want to avoid forgetting to read the fine print because you skimmed through a contract while juggling other work matters.

For an effective time management strategy, try block scheduling. Set certain days for specific tasks. Tuesdays can be for research, Thursday evenings for DIY projects, and Saturdays for shopping! However you choose to slice and dice it, be intentional with your focus. Balance and strategy are key!

Ask for help!

Nobody wants to feel like a bother, but real talk: Planning a wedding is hard work!  Delegate small tasks to those that offer to help. Perhaps your bridal party can assist with sending out or tracking RSVPs or help with the party favors. Get your partner involved, too!

If help is proposed, do not be afraid to take the person up on their offer. And if nobody is quick to raise their hand, kindly asking for help will do you no harm. Also, don’t forget about those couple friends who have hosted a wedding before. They have lots of advice!  Don’t reinvent the wheel; modify it to fit your use!

Don’t forget to rest.

We know, there is so much to do, and setting aside evenings for wedding planning just doesn’t seem like enough time. But, rest is important! Burnout can be detrimental to your career and it can suck the fun right out of wedding planning.

Take breaks. Go on date nights. Be intentional about being present with your partner. Explore new music together.  Plan a weekend getaway. Your livelihood should not revolve around wedding planning but around the love you two share!

Planning a wedding while maintaining professional poise can feel burdensome and like a juggling act, but it doesn’t have to be! Plan for the unforeseen and receive it as gracefully as possible. If your budget allows it, hire a wedding planner! Let them take all that responsibility off your plate. Enjoy your engagement and know that what is waiting for you on the other side of your wedding finish line is the beginning of your new forever!
