I’ve been doing events since high school (which was a LONG time ago!) and went to school for Hospitality at Chico State. What Has Casey Hahn of Palm Event Center Been Doing in Quarantine?

This is a part of our Creative Partner Spotlight: Quarantine Edition series, where we show you what our creative partners from all around the Bay Area have been up to during quarantine. Today, we’re checking in with Casey Hahn of The Palm Event Center

What has been your favorite part about quarantine? All the additional puppy cuddles, time with my hubby, and getting creative in the kitchen! I’ve also been following all of the “quarantine trends” — I have yet to make banana bread or create geometric chalk art though! But my paint-by-number is really coming along!

What has been your least favorite part about quarantine? Not seeing family and friends, cancelled baseball games and two baby showers for my Godson and my first nephew has really been a bummer.

How have you been spending your time? Beside Netflix and chilling
taking lots of walks, committing to live online workouts, working on my tan in the backyard, and listening to music.

What are your favorite local restaurants to order take out from? Kawa Sushi is always my first go-to, but recently I’ve been craving some Taco Bell 😊

What have you been binge watching? Besides Tiger King, I’ve been Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Beverly Hills Housewives, and American Idols.

What are you looking forward to most when all of this is over? Looking at a different 4 walls! HA!

Have you celebrated a birthday or event during quarantine? How did you do it? Easter and my Sister-in-Law’s birthday were both celebrated by Zoom chats with family and ‘cheers’ from afar.

Have you learned any new skills during quarantine? I am looking forward to Rachel Hollis’ Rise Conference this weekend! It is all about leadership and understanding a growth mindset. As soon as my paint-by-number is done I am looking forward to getting started on more scratch art! It’s like scratching a lottery ticket, just with no money at the end and instead you are left with a cool picture.

Is there anything else you’d like to add? Looking forward to seeing all of our couples AND vendors when we can convene again!

Meet Casey Hahn of Palm Events Center

This is a part of our Creative Collaboration series, where we introduce you to our creative partners from all around the Bay Area. Today, we’re introducing you to Casey Hahn from Palm Event Center.

The Palm Event Center in the Vineyard is a beautiful, elegant and rustic wine country property. They feature a dramatic palm tree-lined driveway and gorgeous venue with an intimate Estate Room and expansive ballroom overlooking the vineyards. They feature delicious, wine-friendly cuisine and host primarily weddings and corporate events.

We asked Casey to tell us about what inspired her to pursue a career in weddings and how he got started in the industry.

My love for event planning began in high school where I was in charge of planning Homecoming activities, rallies and events for my peers, and when I started college at Chico State I discovered that they had a nationally accredited Recreation Administration program with an option in Special Event Planning! After college I returned to the Bay Area and started working part-time as a server in the Catering Department at Wente Vineyards, serving at weddings, golf tournaments, concerts and corporate events. My other part-time job was with the City of Dublin Special Events Department where we planned and hosted the St. Patrick’s Day Festival and the Day on the Green Festival among other smaller city events. I was then given the opportunity to become an Event/Wedding Coordinator at Wente Vineyards, and then moved into the role of Associate Events Director. After a brief hiatus from weddings during a stint in Corporate Event Planning, I realized that my love and passion for wedding planning was something I could not suppress! Shortly after that I was offered the role as an Event Coordinator with Beets Hospitality Group serving both Casa Real and Palm Event Center, and I’ve been here ever since!

Casey also shared what her favorite part about being in weddings is.

Being a wedding coordinator does have its stressors, but that is overruled by the pure joy that we see on our Brides & Grooms faces as we get to walk with them through what could be one of the most important days of their lives! One of my favorite moments during a wedding is having that minute with the Bride right before sending her down the aisle; fluffing her train, adjusting her veil, seeing her relish in that moment with whomever is escorting her down the aisle, telling her to take a deep breath and smile…opening the doors, and go! Being with her and supporting her in such an important, pivotal moment makes me feel like I have purpose!

Casey is also sharing the one piece of advice she likes to give couples planning their wedding.

Keep things in perspective and remember to truly enjoy your day! Lots of things can happen, especially with family dynamics, money, and the stressors of planning a huge party for all of the most important people in your life. But really soak in the day as it goes by SO fast! You’re doing a lot of planning for only 6 hours of your life, so you have to relax and enjoy it!

Proudly serving Bay Area Weddings for over twenty years, Fantasy Sound aims to be engaged couples’ first stop- offering Disc Jockey, Videography, Event Lighting DĂ©cor and Wedding Planning services. We haven’t received any of the professional photos yet, but we wanted to share some of our favorite looks from the evening that we captured ourselves!

We were so excited to unveil our Statue LOVE Letters! Standing 8′ tall, they’re an amazing statement piece and they would be so much fun for photographs. We will be offering these letters in both the dark wood seen here and white! Nicole Ha Design always outdoes herself, and this year was no different! Our 9′ Round Crystal Beaded Chandelier is always stunning, but adding in the 20′ long Crystal Beaded Column, 5 Light Crystal Chandeliers, and greenery on the top takes it over the edge! We wanted to create a twist on our 12’x12′ Beaded Crystal Chandelier, so say hello to our Fabric Chandelier! Adding the GOBO patterns and 25 Light Crystal Chandelier will help create a stunning focal point over your dance floor! This may have been one of the smallest vignettes…but it was certainly one of our favorites! Our Black Velour Drapery and Edison Bulbs add to the autumnal dream Nicole Ha created! We loved getting the opportunity to collaborate with Liz of Enchantment Floral in this whimsical vignette! Our 16 Light Crystal Chandeliers complement the design so well!

Our brand new 12′ Arbor is a really exciting addition to our inventory! It’s totally versatile and can be used in many different ways alongside our other items, like our Edison Bulbs and Geometric Chandeliers, but we especially love the look that Karl of Delford West created with the greenery!

We absolutely ADORE this photo of Erin and Scott during their first dance! They had such a fun decor set up for their sweetheart table that helped serve as a wonderful backdrop for this dance. Thank you to Jessica Miriam Photo for this image!

We always love a couple that can have fun! These two tore it up on the dance floor and we were so honored to be a part of their special day.

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs. – we hope you are enjoying married life in style!

Our gratitude goes out to Jessica Miriam Photography for sharing such lovely photos with us today!

Meet Jenny Whitney of Beets Hospitality Group!

This is a part of our Creative Collaboration series, where we introduce you to our creative partners from all around the Bay Area. Today, we’re introducing you to Jenny Whitney of Beets Hospitality Group.

We’re thrilled to introduce Jenny Whitney, an event coordinator at Beets Hospitality Group, which happens to run two of our beloved venues – Palm Event Center and Casa Real. They create unforgettable events in both the bridal and corporate segments, and they are always striving to innovate in the constantly changing event world that we live in.

We asked Jenny about her favorite part about being involved in a wedding:
I love being so closely involved with the couple on the most important day of their lives. I get to fluff up the bride’s train before she walks down the aisle. I’m the last person she sees as I open the doors for her to walk down the aisle, and I get to witness their expressions and emotions as they walk back through the ceremony doors as a married couple. I love witnessing all of the love and happiness in the room through the duration of any wedding, and seeing the couple’s pure joy throughout the night. Lastly, I love saying goodnight at the end of a successful wedding and hearing how much they appreciated all we did for them.

I love this ever-changing industry we are in. We consistently challenge each other to deliver the best of the extravagant, the trendy, and the classic events that fit each of our couples. I feel at home in this industry, and I love coming to work everyday doing the work that I love 🙂

She also shared a major ‘uh-oh’ moment and how it was recovered quickly:
The worst thing that has ever happened involved a bride who hadn’t tried on her dress within the week of the wedding. After being zipped into her dress, the zipper completely broke, leaving her dress almost completely backless. Luckily I have some sewing experience, so I was able to sew her into the dress. I had to continually fix stitches throughout the event, but she was so thankful that I was able to keep her dress on her! This was probably one of the most stressful situations for me.

Jenny shared some advice for engaged couples as well:
Trust in your vendors. Also, trust in preferred vendor lists. The preferred vendors are preferred for a reason. Reputable venues will have done their research on these vendors for you. They will likely have worked at your venue often, and will know what designs, color schemes, and other logistics work best for each space. Also book them early. Start with the vendors that will be there through your whole wedding day. Your photographers, your videographers and your DJs are unable to double book themselves, so once they are taken, they are taken! Don’t procrastinate! Same goes for your wedding venue. If you fall in love with a popular venue that has limited availability, try and make your decision quickly, as those limited dates may not stay open for long.

Vendors

Best Ways to Qualify Vendors

You can’t have a fantastic wedding without equally fantastic vendors! Luckily, finding the right vendors for your Big Day is just a few clicks away. Check out these wonderful resources that will help you qualify the best vendors for your wedding!

The Knot & WeddingWire
Both of these sites will be your best friends throughout the planning process. You can search for wedding vendors by category and easily find reviews and photos. You can also learn about other key details, such as pricing and amenities. On WeddingWire, the site breaks down each vendor’s rating by factors such as quality of service, responsiveness and professionalism, which can be extremely helpful!

Social Media
Now’s the time to put your social media stalking skills to good use! Head over to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see what folks are saying about your potential vendors. Check out whether or not the tone of conversation in their mentions on Twitter and comment sections on Facebook and Instagram is generally positive. Also, look up their hashtags and get a good idea of what goes on behind-the-scenes.

Yelp
There’s a wealth of information on Yelp as well. Their reviews often include photos, which is a major plus! Also, Yelp is much more than just reviews and ratings. You can request a quote through the site and find out which vendors are currently offering a deal.

Website Testimonials
Of course, you have to visit each vendors website to take a look at their testimonials. Think about your vendor deal breakers and the quality of service you would like provided and see who matches up. If a vendor doesn’t have testimonials listed on their website, don’t be afraid to request referrals in-person.

With these resources, you’re bound to find your ideal wedding vendors!

What To Do After Saying ‘I Do’

After tying the knot, it’s important that newlyweds get a few things in order. From mailing out thank-you cards to handling name changes, there is plenty to do after your wedding. Here are a few tasks that’ll help get your post-wedding to-do list going!

Don’t disappear
Enjoy your fabulous honeymoon, but don’t go MIA on your vendors once you return. Vendors may need to follow-up with you or just want to say thanks, which brings us to our next to-do!

Give your vendors a shout out
If your vendors did a fantastic job, don’t forget to hop on WeddingWire, The Knot, and/or Yelp to let everyone else know just how amazing they are! Positive reviews on these platforms are just the right boost that will help them book more couples.

Send thank you notes
One of the most important things to cross of your list is, of course, sending those thank you notes for all of the wedding gifts you have received. Keep track of who gave what so that you can send personalized messages of gratitude. Your guests will certainly appreciate the effort!

Get your legal affairs in order
The process of getting your name changed, if you so desire, has its own to-do list! Start with your driver’s license, Social Security Card and bank accounts, then work your way on down the list. You’ll have to notify places such as your employer and utility and insurance companies. Also, don’t forget about changing the name on your credit cards and passport!

Properly store your wedding gown
Here’s a biggie for the bride! Your wedding gown is a gorgeous (and very expensive) keepsake that you’ll want to be kept in pristine condition. Consider hiring a preservationist who can help get your dress cleaned, neatly wrapped and tucked away.

Find a new hobby
Once your wedding and honeymoon are over, you’ll start missing the feeling of having something grand to look forward to. Consider picking up a new hobby or getting a head start on  planning your next getaway. Staying occupied will help combat the post-wedding blues!

Once your to-do list is tackled, you’ll be ready to relax and enjoy your new life as Mr. and Mrs.!
