Based in the Bay Area, Joel and Kristine started Jkapture Studios with a simple love of capturing life’s memories and quickly grew that into a passion for sharing couples’ stories on film. With their son, Jacques, now in the mix, Jkapture Studios is truly a family affair, bringing warmth and creativity into every love story they capture. We’re excited to dive deeper into their story and see what makes this talented team tick!

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you two to the event industry?

Growing up, we cherished watching our grandparents’ wedding video, which inspired us to appreciate the importance of capturing life’s most precious moments. This nostalgia sparked our passion for storytelling through film and played a significant role in shaping our career path.

It all started with Joel’s love for photography, which soon became a shared interest as we discovered the joy of preserving memories together. Our hobby evolved into a small wedding photography business, and along the way, we fell in love with the magic of film. This newfound passion led us to establish Jkapture Studios in 2012.

Over the years, we’ve developed our unique style that blends cinematic elements with intimate, personal touches. We find joy in documenting raw emotions and one-of-a-kind moments, crafting films that couples can treasure as part of their family heirlooms.

Today, our 17-year-old son Jacques shares our passion and has joined us at Jkapture Studios, infusing fresh creativity and enthusiasm into our work. Our business has truly become a family affair, and we’re excited to see how his unique perspectives will contribute to our future creations.

What do you love about your job?

As full-time parents juggling the joys (and challenges!) of raising three children, getting away for a bit and having some adult fun is always a bonus. And weddings, well, they’re like the ultimate party for us! We get to mingle, celebrate, and let loose with our couples and their bridal parties. But, let’s be real – the cherry on top is getting paid to do what we love. Being a wedding videographer is seriously awesome! It’s like having a backstage pass to witness and capture all the raw emotions – from pure joy to those happy tears – and preserve them forever on film. Working closely with couples, vendors, and guests adds to the excitement, and nothing tops that feeling of giving the newlyweds an amazing film that’ll become a cherished part of their family history. It’s the perfect mix of passion, creativity, and making people smile – while having a blast doing it!

What’s the most memorable reaction you’ve experienced from a couple leading up to their wedding day?

One particularly memorable reaction was when we surprised a couple with a Same Day Edit film, revealing their pregnancy to everyone – including their parents and friends! The reactions were priceless: shock, excitement, laughter, tears of joy. Those subtle, intimate moments are why we love our job. It’s heartwarming to create cherished memories that couples will treasure and to know that our work can make their special day even more memorable.

We’ve witnessed couples and guests laughing while watching themselves on screen, feeling excited for the next clip, and tearing up during heartfelt vows. These moments make our work truly rewarding. We’re grateful to be a part of these incredible celebrations and help capture memories that will last a lifetime.

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

We’ve seen it all when it comes to weddings! If we could give you one piece of advice, it’d be this: don’t stress the small stuff. Let us worry about that for you!

We know it’s easy to get wrapped up in all the details, but remember what really matters on your big day: celebrating your love with your favorite people. Yeah, flowers, centerpieces, and seating charts are important, but they’re not the most important thing. That’s where we come in—we’ll be there for you throughout the planning process, on your wedding day, and even after we deliver your wedding films.

Our advice? Focus on the bigger picture. Take care of yourselves and each other leading up to the wedding, and don’t be afraid to ask trusted friends and family for help. On the big day, breathe, let go of any last-minute worries, and just enjoy the moment. It’s your day, after all, and it should be a fun celebration of your love, not a stress-fest.
