Hey there, soonlyweds! Welcome back to Seven with Kevin, a blog series where Fantasy Sound Event Service’s very own, Kevin Dennis, will regularly share seven wedding planning tips regarding the different aspects of the planning process to relieve some of that inevitable stress! This month, Kevin wants to share seven unique wedding ideas to make your wedding day truly yours. Your wedding day should be a reflection of you and your partner’s love story, because every detail, every formality, every decision should feel like you. We know this can all sound a little overwhelming, but don’t worry because Kevin has got you covered. So, without further ado, let’s dive into Seven Unique Wedding Ideas To Make Your Day 100% Yours!

1. You Can Serve Up Late-Night Bites
This unique wedding idea is for all you foodies out there, or maybe for those guests who might need a little pick-me-up later in the evening! Late-night bites are a fun (and delicious) way to incorporate a touch of your unique flare. I mean, who wouldn’t want a tasty treat once the main course is over and the dancing begins?
Kevin recalls that, at his own wedding (16 years ago!), he and his wife, Jessica, wanted to incorporate their favorite foods as a surprise for their guests. So, once the DJ cranked up the music and loved ones filled the dance floor, savory smells went wafting through the air. Fresh pizza was hot and ready for the taking, and Kevin was first in line. Jessica’s chosen snack was a popcorn machine parked right at the bar! The perfect placement to allow guests to snack freely throughout the evening. Kevin and Jessica took “eat, drink, and be married” to a whole new level.
Now, think about the foods you and your partner love. Is there a late-night bite that would excite you on your wedding day? Kevin mentioned that if you want to take this option a step further, bring in a food truck! Imagine your guests’ excitement when it rolls up. Whether you’re thinking about grilled cheese sandwiches, street tacos, or cups of gelato, adding a personal touch to your menu is a surefire way to make your wedding feel even more unique to you.

2. You Can Transform Your Space With Lighting
Lighting may not immediately come to mind when planning your wedding day, however Kevin stresses that its impact on the mood and ambiance of your space is unparalleled. It’s a straightforward way to express your personality through your wedding theme. Generally, most may think that lighting’s use is solely functional to illuminate a space, but it’s really there to create an atmosphere, enhance your theme, and make your venue come alive with warmth, elegance, or even a little bit of drama.
Now to truly get a grasp on this unique wedding idea, just sit and visualize the impact that twinkling string lights can have on a cozy, intimate reception space. Imagine the sparkle of a crystal-beaded chandelier dancing across a ballroom. Consider some dreamy uplighting set in your wedding colors, tying everything else in the room together. There are endless lighting options to explore, and there is truly something for everyone. Especially don’t feel you have to fall victim to the spreading Instagram trends!

3. You Can Add Fun to the Festivities
So, picture this: you’re at your wedding reception. There are loved ones all around, the drinks are flowing, and the food is plentiful. It’s truly a celebration to remember, so why not maximize the fun? And we mean thinking outside the box and beyond the dance floor. Guest experience, time and time again, has been a huge focal point in wedding planning, so consider this next unqiue wedding idea and plan a few additional activities to make this a party they won’t soon forget.
Classic lawn games are perfect for an outdoor cocktail hour, a wedding (or couple) themed scavenger hunt can be played throughout the day, or a video game lounge is great for those who love a little friendly competition. These are all fun and easy ways to enhance the guest experience. And don’t forget about a photo booth from Fantasy Sound! It’s a perfect way to capture sweet memories while giving guests a special keepsake to take home. With customizable text, graphics, and backdrops, a photo booth is another terrific opportunity to make your wedding day uniquely yours.

4. You Can Make a Bold Entrance
The grand entrance into your reception space can set the tone for the entire evening, so why not have a little fun with it? Like all of our other unique wedding ideas, it’s still important to keep this part of the evening true to you and your partner. So, whether you go for a simpler approach with upbeat music and crazy dance moves or you go all out with a fully choreographed performance, this is your opportunity to show off your unique selves!
One of the most memorable grand entrances Kevin has ever witnessed as a DJ was almost 15 years ago. Even though he’s seen hundreds of others since then, this particular couple’s introduction really stood the test of time. They were huge boxing fans and wanted to incorporate their unique hobby into the intro. However, they didn’t just simply walk into the ballroom, there was a whole production invovled. Their bridesmaids and groomsmen took on the roles as boxing trainers, promoters, and agents while Kevin was tasked with delivering a dynamic, ring-style speech that had the entire “audience” buzzing. The bride and groom began struting on opposite sides of the dance floor and met in the middle to add an extra layer of excitement. Your entrance can be as bold as these boxing fans, or as simple as dancing to your favorite song, but make sure it feels like YOU!

5. You Can Make Your Pets Part of the Day
Our fur babies mean everything to us! (Yes, I’m especially talking to you Millenials.) So, no wonder wedding couples are constantly finding unique ways to incorporate their pets into their special day. We have seen puppies walk down the aisle as a ring bearers, pose in the cutest portraits, or simply serve as the inspiration for wedding decor details.
However, if your furry friend can attend, consider only having them present for the ceremony before sending them home with a trusted handler. Although it’s a niche market, there are professional pet sitters like Dog Of Honor in Northern California who can ensure your pet receives the care and attention they need while you enjoy your day free of stress. Futhermore, if you decide it’s best for your fur baby to stay home, there are endless ways to still honor them throughout the day. Chew over, perhaps featuring their illustration on cocktail napkins or bar signage, prepare cutouts of them for your photo booth, put them on your welcome sign or seating chart, or order a figurine so they can be your cake topper!
No matter how you include them, our pets are a part of the family, and including them is a great way to make the day feel more personal and unique.

6. You Can Put Your Name in Lights
Do you want to know the best way to put your name on your wedding? Kevin says it’s by quite literally doing it… with a Custom Monogram Gobo Light from Fantasy Sound Event Services! We offer many cost-effective monogram light selections to make this unique wedding idea come to life. Picture your initials projected onto the dance floor during your first dance or your name illuminated on a nearby wall. Fantasy Sound will assist in designing your monogram to complement your vision and style and project it wherever you’d like.
Beyond the dance floor or walls, your monogram can also be a signature detail throughout your wedding journey. Think of it as your own personal logo that can be applied to your invitations, thank-you cards, menus, and signage for a cohesive look. It’s the perfect way to ensure your love story shines in a way that’s entirely unique for you!

7. You Can Incorporate Your Culture & Traditions
This final wedding idea is not necessarily related to the uniqueness of the thought but rather to the uniqueness of your background. Let’s celebrate you, your culture, and your heritage. Adding cultural traditions to your wedding is a beautiful way to honor your heritage and celebrate your background. Whether you and your partner come from the same or different cultures, including these customs adds meaning to your unique love story.
When discussing this, Kevin thought back to a couple he worked with. At this wedding, the groom was Jewish, the bride was Chinese, and they seamlessly blended both of their traditions into the day. The newlyweds signed the Ketubah (a Jewish marriage contract) in front of their guests, allowing both families to witness the moment. They also held a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, ensuring again that both sides of the family felt connected to the celebration and included.
By infusing your cultural traditions, you honor your family and create an immersive experience for your guests. It’s a beautiful way to share your story, educate your loved ones, and begin your forever with a nod to your past. No matter how you choose to incorporate your culture, make it personal, make it intentional, and most importantly—make it uniquely yours.
