7 Qualities to Look For in Your Wedding DJ

Your dream wedding is becoming a reality — now all you have to do is select the right entertainment! To start the process, consider your event’s style and feel. For instance, do you want your guests on the dance floor or casually mingling with drinks? A clear understanding of your vibe will help navigate your search.

In addition, consider the type of experience you want with your vendors. Chances are, you’re looking for a positive and seamless experience, which boils down to hiring someone who matches your energy.

If you’re ready to kickstart your talent search but need assistance, keep reading to discover seven qualities to look for in a great wedding DJ!

Wedding DJ

Excellent listening skills

It’s your special day, and you want it to reflect your personality and relationship. But achieving this soundscape is challenging when your DJ doesn’t consider your feedback. Instead, an exceptional entertainer listens to your ideas and offers tips to blend your playlists with your vision.

As you and your partner interview contenders, see if they will listen to your theme and song ideas before providing their suggestions. After all, they’re supporting your main event, so they must be on the same page as you.

An open collaborator

Bringing your celebration to life requires collaboration. You’ll want to hire someone who incorporates your ideas while bringing their own style to the mix. Ask if they take song requests and allow couples to make their own playlists. They’ll make a great addition to your team if they’re flexible.

It’s also telling if they ask questions to ensure your vision and songs align. Everything will come together with your music input and your DJ’s expertise.

A complementary style

Once you determine your wedding’s style, finding a DJ who pairs well with it is the next step. We recommend going with a pro with a unique flair and the ability to merge the two styles together. That way, you avoid clashing music choices and songs that fall flat at the reception.

Inquire about their style and how they can enhance your wedding vision. Then, you can have a transparent conversation, brainstorm playlist ideas, and share the general ambiance you want to create.

Entertainment experience

Professional experience means your DJ knows what they’re doing. Remember, they will be the MC of your reception, guiding your timeline, so you’ll want an expert who can provide smooth transitions from first dances to your final sign-off.

An experienced DJ can read the room and switch up the playlist if necessary. Their experience also ensures they engage your guests and make it a memorable night. As you meet candidates, check to see if they have relevant experience to execute your dream wedding.

Experience with your venue

While not mandatory, hiring a DJ that knows your venue is beneficial, as they are familiar with the layout and best areas to set up. They also have a professional relationship with your event space giving them insight into the preparation process and how to set your celebration up for success.

Try asking your reception hall for recommendations. They likely have a preferred list of vendors who can make your day even more magical. The referral will also provide more peace of mind leading to your “I dos.”

Accommodating and easy to work with

With your hands full, you’ll want to hire an entertainer who offers a hassle-free experience by taking the initiative and accommodating your requests. As you look for the perfect DJ, ask about their process from start to finish. This preview will show how they work and help you decide if it aligns with your needs.

Now, you don’t want someone too easygoing, because they may not attend to the smaller details. Instead, opt for a meticulous, organized pro offering a laidbackexperience.

Positive attitude

As the MC, your DJ should exude positivity and confidence throughout the preparation process and execution of your event. Their optimism and energy will provide assurance during a hectic planning time. While chatting with your contenders, reflect on how you and your partner feel around them. What’s your first impression? How did they make you feel? If they come across as welcoming, you may have found your winner.

Are you ready to book your wedding DJ?

Now that you know what qualities to look for in your entertainment, it’s time to research and familiarize yourselves with the local talent. This process may be time-consuming, but finding the perfect match for your once-in-a-lifetime celebration is worth it.

You’ll also want to create a list of questions and explore reviews online. But most importantly, enjoy the planning experience. You’re doing this to honor your love, so have fun and make the most of it.

Casa Real Events Wedding | Lin + Peter

Today, we’re providing a glimpse into a gorgeous Casa Real wedding that executed a perfect balance of classic and modern elements. Lin and Peter’s special day was a magical culmination of their wedding vision, and we can’t wait for you to see it!

Surrounded by picturesque views, the couple shared a sweet moment as they looked into each other’s eyes. The mountains and green trees created a lovely backdrop for the vineyard shot.

Lin and Peter posed next to their bridesmaids and groomsmen in front of Casa Real’s Romanesque entrance. The cool tones of the bridesmaids’ dresses made an excellent contrast to the warm and natural stone exterior.

The couple also had their moment to shine as they stood in front of the arched-cedar doors. The earthy colors of the corridor provided a great background for this shot.

As we moved to the ceremony, the outdoor patio provided a cobblestone aisle lined with white and pastel bouquets, leading to a breathtaking floral arch.

The couple shared their vows as the statement arch tied the light florals together and beautifully complemented the greenery overhead. In addition, the sheer white curtains in the background brought a soft texture to the gorgeous scenery.

The sweetheart table was stunning, surrounded by pink and white roses and airy curtains. We loved the blush tablecloth with the personal message and the cursive neon sign, which brought a modern touch to a classic scene!

Although the sweetheart table was centerstage, the guests’ tables came complete with these cute and simplistic signages. What a charming glimpse into Lin and Peter’s relationship!

Take a look at this beautiful scene. Casa Real’s reception hall looked unreal – no pun intended! We were mesmerized by the combo of our dazzling crystal-beaded chandelier and custom monogram with the expert floral arrangements.

The couple’s first dance beneath the twinkling lights was lovely. As they swayed to their song, it was clear that their day was as perfect as they imagined. Every detail made the moment more magical!

Then the party began! The dragon dance show was spectacular and left guests in awe.

Join us in congratulating Lin and Peter. Here’s a toast to the next chapter of your lives!

What an extraordinary celebration! We want to shout out our creative partners, who brought this magical day to life.

Wedding DJ Guest Requests

Should Your Wedding DJ Allow Guest Requests?

When you’re planning a wedding, one of the many decisions you’ll make on the way to the aisle is the type of music and entertainment you’ll have for guests. Do you hire a DJ or a live band? Do you create your own playlist or let them run with it?

While DJs bring a lot to the table (no pun intended), it’s important to select a wedding DJ you can trust to keep the party alive. And in searching for the best fit, you’ll want to ask the all-important question:

How do you handle song requests as a wedding DJ?

There’s only one right answer: It’s up to you! A great wedding DJ leaves that decision to the couple, as it’s a matter of preference.

While we leave it up to our couples, we generally support guest requests as it adds an element of interaction to the celebration. If guests pick songs they love, it will surely get them on the dance floor! (Plus, there may even be some jams you forgot about in the shuffle of planning your wedding!)

Wedding DJ Guest Requests

But accepting guest requests doesn’t mean you lose control of your wedding vibe. Here are a few suggestions for opening the floor while maintaining the right energy:

Collect song requests before the wedding.

A popular way to involve guests in the party process early is by asking for song requests on the RSVP card. This will get your guests thinking about your big day and, when the wedding day arrives, they’ll be excited to hear their song! To jazz it up even more, consider placing RSVP cards conveniently for the wedding DJ to pick them out and shoutout your guests’s requests. Nothing brings the hype like a spotlight!

Create a “do not play” list.

Don’t worry about hearing songs you hate on your wedding day. If there are certain songs you can’t stand, create a “do not play” list to share with your DJ! That way, you aren’t surprised by a song that makes you cringe on the dance floor. That goes for those overplayed wedding songs that might feel a bit cliché for your big day. Don’t be afraid to set boundaries with the songs you don’t like!

Discuss expectations with your DJ.

Of course, most couples’ main concern is that someone will request a song they hate or one that isn’t appropriate for the rest of their guests. (There’s no need to make grandma blush on your wedding day!) That’s why working with an experienced DJ is essential.

A DJ with wedding experience will know which requests are worth taking and which aren’t a good fit for your big day. It’s their job to keep a pulse on the vibe of the party, so you can trust a seasoned DJ to take all requests with a grain of salt.

Make sure to set clear parameters around the style of songs you would like played. Just like your well-considered decor, your music needs to fit the vibe too. So share all the details, like your favorite artists, whether explicit music can be played, and which genres you would like to avoid.

Remember: This is your big day and your wedding DJ is there to make it all the better! Just like your other vendors, it’s vital to find a DJ you love and feel comfortable working with. After all, the DJ runs the party — so pick the best party manager you can!

Questions to ask the DJ After You’ve Popped the Question

It’s no secret that a DJ can make or break a wedding reception. The last thing you want is someone who doesn’t know how to create a vibe! Yet, there are so many options on the market for a DJ that it can be an intimidating task to find the right one. This makes the interview process all the more stressful. It’s essential to ask the right questions to get the very best for your big day!

First and foremost, let’s cover a few basic interview questions.

questions to ask your DJ

How long have you been a professional DJ? How many weddings do you do per year?

This question gets overlooked time and time again. You definitely don’t want your big day to be your DJ’s first event! So, ensure your DJ is well-seasoned in the wedding and events industry before signing on the dotted line.

How would you describe your style? What are your favorite types of weddings to DJ?

A typical answer you may hear is that they can match any style or “vibe.” But go beyond that by getting to know the person behind the business! What are their favorite weddings and events? The answer will reveal whether your DJ knows a good time!

Do you have any recent references?

You can’t have an interview without asking for references! Imagine how much better you will feel knowing there was a very happy couple who loved this DJ just weeks before you spoke with them. It’s crucial to build confidence and credibility with the vendors you choose.

Is our date available?

This is the most critical question. Ideally, you’ll know this before the interview. Otherwise, you’re wasting your time!

Next, it’s good to get to know your DJ, how they will conduct the wedding reception, and let them get to know you, your preferences, and how you want your big day to look!

Can we have a “do not play” or a “must play” list?

This is YOUR day! It is imperative that you get to customize all services to your liking!

Do you offer any assistance in choosing music for special parts of the day?

There are so many options for first dance songs! Why not let the professional help you decide if you struggle to find the perfect tune?

Will you serve as our emcee?

The last thing you want is to falsely assume your DJ will oversee your reception schedule, only to find out they’re not. So make sure your DJ will cover every requirement you have.

Will you be the one performing at our wedding? If not, can we meet our DJ?

If you’re meeting with a company, it’s important to know who will show up for your wedding. Your day will run much smoother if you like the chosen vendors!

Lastly, let’s make sure all the loose ends are tied.

How much are your services? How and when do you take payment? Will you require a deposit? Are there any additional charges?

Although you might know some of these details before you meet, no one likes a financial surprise while wedding planning. So let’s make sure there aren’t any surprises!

Do you bring all the necessary equipment? What about backup equipment?

A DJ without the proper equipment wouldn’t be ideal for your reception. Make sure they have everything they need — otherwise, you may need to consider AV rentals, which will add to your budget.

What time will you arrive to set up? Will you take breaks? If so, how many and how long? What time will you tear down to leave?

Logistics, logistics, logistics! Your venue will appreciate knowing this upfront as well.

Everyone wants a stress-free wedding day! Feeling confident in your vendors, DJ included, will allow a refreshing deep breath and no added nerves on your special day.

5 Considerations for Choosing an Emcee

When planning an event, most people focus on the food, venue, and entertainment. However, let’s not forget that the guests’ experience throughout the celebration is what they’ll remember most! If there’s one expense you shouldn’t skimp on, it’s hiring a professional DJ who can also serve as an effervescent emcee.

Choosing the right emcee not only ensures that everything stays on schedule, but that the crowd is engaged and enjoying themselves all night long!

Here are some valuable tips on what to look for when hiring an emcee:

Excellent delivery is key

You don’t want an emcee who mumbles to themself onstage. Instead, your emcee should be an effective communicator: someone who is able to project their voice, maintain eye contact and engage with your audience. And, of course, they should sound enthusiastic to keep the energy of the room high!

Choose a good listener

Nothing holds the attention of a crowd better than good banter. An emcee isn’t a keynote speaker; they should know how to listen to the audience and invite them to respond. So, remember to look for someone who is not only a good speaker but can also pick up on interesting dialogue opportunities.

They should be prepared for anything and everything

Your emcee should have a clear understanding of the planned structure and itinerary of the event so they are ready to keep things flowing no matter what. There will be moments when they will need to improvise. During lulls in the program, like technical glitches or waiting for the next toast, they will have to work the crowd to maintain the energy. A good emcee also does research on the details of the event, like special audience members that need to be recognized during the program or the pronunciation of important names.

Find an emcee who is mindful of the time

One of the key responsibilities of an emcee is to ensure that the event starts and ends on time, which means they need excellent time management skills. If one segment goes on for longer or shorter than expected, they should be aware and be able to adapt as needed.

A great sense of humor is a must!

There’s nothing worse than a boring emcee! You want someone who can brighten up the room and keep the crowd engaged with funny anecdotes and jokes. Trust me, when you make sure your guests have a great time, they will remember the event for years to come.

And there you have it! We’ve rounded up five qualities to look out for when choosing an emcee. Remember: your emcee is one of your greatest assets. They can make or break your event, so choose wisely!

8 Songs to Include on Every Wedding Playlist

wedding playlist

Choosing the right DJ to host your wedding is challenging. But, that’s not all —you also have to select the must-have songs that need to make it to your wedding playlist.

Your wedding playlist should bring back moments of nostalgia, speak to your love story, and show your guests a great time as they celebrate your nuptials.

We have compiled a list of perennial songs that will gather all your guests onto the dance floor—or even showcase their vocals. As the saying goes: No matter the age difference, music proves we are all the same.

So, let’s kick this list off:

“I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas

This song gives a solid 30 seconds of beat build-up — perfect timing for people to run to the dance floor! Once the lyrics start playing, how can anybody deny that your wedding will be a good night? After all, isn’t a wedding all about the feelings?

“September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire

Who can forget the night of the 21st of September? Don’t worry — this song is a great fit no matter what month you tie the knot!  The joy is in the melody and you can rest assured all of your guests know this jam.

“Safe and Sound” by Capital Cities

This song is an energy-builder—it carries a good tempo for the dancers and head boppers. The lyrics say, “You could be my luck; even if the sky is falling down, I know that we’ll be safe and sound.” How can it not be added?

“I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston

What is a wedding reception without listening to the Prom Queen of Soul? Just picture yourself dancing the night away in the arms of your beloved. Now, imagine your loved ones doing the same thing all around you. Win-win!

“Walking on a Dream” by Empire of the Sun

With a catchy beat, this Indie Alternative sing-along song is a MUST! Aside from its upbeat tempo, the lyrics pay tribute to a love that makes lovers feel like they are walking on a dream! Sound familiar?

“Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees

Transport your guest to the 1970s, a la Saturday Night Fever! All your guests will smile as they sing along with the dynamic trio and their unmistakable falsetto. Trust us, you will have feet on the dance floor and mouths belting out the tune with this song on the list.

“Crazy in Love” by Beyonce

You don’t need to be in the Beyhive to appreciate this bouncy hit that’s all about love! The dramatic intro of trumpets calls for everybody to make their way onto the dance floor. Everybody will be ready to get crazy in love shaking their tail feathers away!

“The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra

It’s Frank Sinatra! Need we say more? This 1964 classic will have everybody swaying on the dance floor. Imagine hearing, “There is nothing for me, but to love you and the way you look tonight,” as you dance the night away. (Heart melts!)

Feeling inspired to pull out the archives for the best songs that speak of your love? Get to it! Picking pieces for your wedding playlist can be tricky. Be sure to talk to your DJ and ask for help. Share the list you currently have (as well as those songs you can’t stand!) and gauge their thoughts on it. Have your DJ suggest popular wedding songs to add to the mix. After all, this list is the fun, endless one.

12 Questions to Ask Before Signing a DJ Contract

dj contract

Signing a DJ contract on the dotted line can be intimidating.  Even scarier is when a non-refundable deposit is given and a contract is signed, but a million questions are left unanswered after the “deed” is done.

That’s why it’s essential to ask your DJ the right questions to make your big day an unforgettable one. What’s better than a killer playlist that has you and all your guests shaking your groove thangs?

Before we get into the real nitty-gritty questions, do not disregard the obvious ones either.  Be sure to fully understand the full rate, a breakdown of what the package includes, and their cancellation policy before singing a DJ contract.  This will help you stay within budget and know your rights if your celebration is postponed or canceled.

Let’s get into other questions that will make a world of difference in your big day. On a day where so much is counting on many people, trusting who you hire is a must!

Again: What is their rate, what is covered (in detail), and what do they charge for overtime?

Understanding the services you are paying for will give you peace of mind in an otherwise busy process. A thorough breakdown will help you make the best decision if you are interviewing more than one DJ or weighing out the options of hiring a DJ versus a Band. Also, do not forget to ask for their overtime rate! In some cases, the party does not want to stop and you want to be sure it is affordable.

Are there any additional fees outside of the rate given?

Nobody likes hidden fees.  Be sure to ask if they charge for mileage, song requests, or speeches.  The last thing you want is to be surprised by an unexpected charge.  Also, be sure to let them know about the venue’s parameters and ask if there are additional fees if the event is canceled.

How far in advance do they need to be booked?  How often are they booked?

Some DJs are booked out months in advance, which can spoil your well-intentioned plans if you don’t book early.  Be sure to ask for specific dates and deadlines to hire the DJ of your choice. You also don’t want to book a solo DJ that is consistently overbooked.  Otherwise, you risk their burnout impacting your big day. Instead, consider working with a company with multiple DJs available for booking so you can take your pick.

Do they have insurance?

Many venues require DJs and other wedding pros to carry their own insurance.  Confirm this information upfront so you can be confident they’ll be able to perform on your big day. (Plus, this will protect your investment from any day-of issues that may arise, like no-shows or equipment malfunction.)

dj contract

How long have they been DJing at weddings?  Do they have videos or a portfolio of their work?

This question will give you a feel for their level of expertise.  Remember, the DJ is the center of entertainment.  They should know how to read the room to get people on the dance floor and suggest good songs for the first dance or father-daughter dance.  Their tenure will give you a sense of peace that they will make the best of your big day.  Ask them to provide you with videos of their work to get a sense of their style and vibe.

Do they provide any special lighting effects?

It’s not 1999 anymore, and strobe lights are out. Fortunately, there are plenty of modern lighting solutions that can set the mood! Will your DJ provide anything, like uplights or neon signage? How do they operate the lights?  What special effects can they provide to match the energy of the dance floor?

Will you meet again before the wedding? When is the deadline for submitting your music requests?

Be sure to close the loop on all outstanding uncertainties. See if they need to do a walkthrough of the venue or if you can provide pictures of where they can set up.  If a certain playlist is going to be made or a specific part of a song needs to be looped, get the deadlines for the deliverables.  The last thing you want is to have your DJ scrambling at the last minute only to find they cannot accommodate your requests.

How much time will they need for setup, soundcheck, and breakdown on the day of the event?

Venues tend to work with strict timelines.  Be sure you are giving your DJ all the time they need to set up properly around the power outlets they will need and provide them with time to fix any issues that may arise.  Also, make sure to give them enough time to break down their equipment at the end of the night.  Time is of the essence and having all the correct information upfront will allow for creating an accurate timeline.

dj contract

What kind of space or stage do you require for the DJ? If the venue does not provide what is needed, who will make arrangements for the stage? Who is responsible for renting it?

Having this information upfront will prevent any last-minute surprises on your big day.  From a budget point of view, this will also help you know if funds can be allocated to the request and to know if the DJ is hirable or not.

Do they provide wireless mics for the wedding ceremony?

It’s 2021 and the minimal, wireless look is in.  But, not everybody works with wireless mics yet, so if you want them, make sure to ask in advance. Think about what will serve you and your partner best for the ceremony, toasts, and other speeches.

Do they have backup equipment like mics, batteries, speakers, and power cords?  Does their equipment require special outlets?  Do special arrangements need to be made?

This is about dotting your I’s and crossing your T’s.  The last thing you want to worry about on your special day is having people run to the closest store because something is not working correctly.  Make sure the people you are trusting with your wedding are being proactive with a contingency plan in place to have a perfect, seamless day.

Does your DJ require a meal?

While it is a common courtesy to order vendor meals from your caterer, some event professionals require a meal in their contract. Ask this question to ensure you are ordering the correct amount of food.  You will avoid the awkward eye stares of hunger while everybody else indulges in some delicious food.  Keep in mind that extra meals will accrue a higher catering cost, so be mindful about accounting for these expenses early, so you stay within your budget.

Your main objective is likely to stay within your budget, but you should also aim to get the best quality for your buck. Asking your DJ (and other event pros!) the right questions will give you peace of mind that things will go smoothly on your big day.  Overall, you want to know that whoever you hire has your best interest at heart.  A DJ can make or break your big day, but with thorough interview questions, you will set yourself up to have the day of your dreams.

Should I hire a DJ?

When it comes to wedding entertainment, there are a lot of choices available. Some opt for a live band, others choose to go with a DJ, while still others think an automated playlist will suffice. The decision can be a tough one, so read on as we discuss some of the considerations to keep in mind.

What does your budget look like?
Take a look at your overall budget, as well as how much you have allocated to the entertainment category. Live bands are the costliest option for music, whereas DJs can be much more budget-friendly. Of course, the iPod playlist is always an option for casual get-togethers, but we highly encourage avoiding this route unless you’re ok with occasional lulls, paid advertisements, and/or the lack of a professional MC.

How much space does the venue have?
This is a major consideration when deciding between a band and a DJ. Regardless of what size a band is, it will take up more space than a solo DJ. When you include their instruments, stage, and other A/V devices, it can add to be a large amount of space. For some, having a live band is well worth it. For others, it may not be the best (or even possible) choice for their venue.

What does your music selection look like?
Do you have a lot of must-have songs? Are you hoping to have a song that isn’t a traditional wedding song? The great thing about a DJ is that they have access to nearly any song that you’d like at your wedding. Bands, on the other hand, are limited to the songs that they already know how to perform. Some will offer to learn new songs for you, but it may come at an extra cost.

There are a lot of considerations to think about when making the decision, so be sure to talk to your partner about it before jumping to any conclusions. It’s your day, so go down the route that will add to your perfect wedding!

Ceremony

How To: Coordinate Your Wedding Ceremony

Coordinating your wedding ceremony can be quite the undertaking, especially considering that there are so many moving parts to look after. From getting the wedding party in order to making sure the flower girl(s) and ring bearer know their cue and the officiant is on schedule, it’s enough to make one person’s head spin! Thanks to your amazing wedding party (and coordinator!), you won’t have to go through it alone.

One of the most important steps when it comes to coordinating your ceremony is to simply get organized. Create a timeline for your wedding day and communicate this to the wedding officiant. This will help him/her ensure that your ceremony doesn’t drag on for too long. After a while, your guests will be ready to eat, drink and be merry! Remember to mention any special rituals (i.e. lighting a unity candle, rose presentation, or jumping the broom) that you wish to perform during the ceremony as well.

Next, get into the details of which friends and family members will be playing which roles. Outside of assembling the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the bride needs to determine who will be the maid, matron or maiden of honor and, of course, the groom needs to choose his best man.

There are serious duties that come along with holding a high office in the wedding party, so choose wisely! The matron or maid of honor and best man are in charge of assisting the couple throughout the ceremony and most importantly, holding on to the rings.

Don’t forget about the little ones in your wedding party! You’ll need a ring bearer and flower girl(s). In particular, the ring bearer will need a trusted adult to hand him the wedding rings before he walks down the aisle. If you have a younger, more rambunctious ring bearer on your hands, swap the real rings for decoys that he can carry down the aisle instead.

Once your wedding party is situated, start thinking about your guests’ needs. One thing’s for sure, they’ll need a place to sit! Make sure that you have greeters or ushers on hand to pass out programs and guide everyone to their seats. Also, while you’re checking off your list, remember that everyone will need to hear what’s going on at the altar. Ensure that you have a solid sound system so that the officiant and your vows are heard loud and clear.

The ceremony is the highlight of your entire wedding day, so make it a good one! Create an experience that everyone will cheer about for years to come!

Vendors

Best Ways to Qualify Vendors

You can’t have a fantastic wedding without equally fantastic vendors! Luckily, finding the right vendors for your Big Day is just a few clicks away. Check out these wonderful resources that will help you qualify the best vendors for your wedding!

The Knot & WeddingWire
Both of these sites will be your best friends throughout the planning process. You can search for wedding vendors by category and easily find reviews and photos. You can also learn about other key details, such as pricing and amenities. On WeddingWire, the site breaks down each vendor’s rating by factors such as quality of service, responsiveness and professionalism, which can be extremely helpful!

Social Media
Now’s the time to put your social media stalking skills to good use! Head over to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see what folks are saying about your potential vendors. Check out whether or not the tone of conversation in their mentions on Twitter and comment sections on Facebook and Instagram is generally positive. Also, look up their hashtags and get a good idea of what goes on behind-the-scenes.

Yelp
There’s a wealth of information on Yelp as well. Their reviews often include photos, which is a major plus! Also, Yelp is much more than just reviews and ratings. You can request a quote through the site and find out which vendors are currently offering a deal.

Website Testimonials
Of course, you have to visit each vendors website to take a look at their testimonials. Think about your vendor deal breakers and the quality of service you would like provided and see who matches up. If a vendor doesn’t have testimonials listed on their website, don’t be afraid to request referrals in-person.

With these resources, you’re bound to find your ideal wedding vendors!

Spring Wedding

Tips for Planning a Spring Wedding

Spring is in full swing, which means more couples are heading down the aisle! Whether you’re all set to tie the knot this season or next year, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind as your Big Day approaches. Get into these wonderful tips for planning an unforgettable spring wedding!

Ensure that your venue is Spring weather-proof
Spring weather is notoriously unpredictable so be prepared for an unpredictable forecast. Check with your venue to see if they have indoor accommodations and/or temporary outdoor structures, such as tents. Most importantly, don’t forget about the allergies that come with spring weather. Make sure that your venue has adequate air conditioning to keep everyone’s sniffles under control. You may even want to stock up on tissues and allergy pills just in case!

Remember, it’s peak season!
Keep in mind that it can cost you a pretty penny to get married in the spring, compared to other times of the year. Vendors are busier during peak season and everyone wants to get married. Engaged couples looking toward the next spring season should be mindful of the deals that come about during the off-season so they can plan ahead to save on their budget. Items like dresses and tuxes can be purchased during the off-season for a fraction of their original price. Setting a date during the middle of the week as opposed to the weekend or earlier in the day (think brunch!) will also shave down the overall cost of your wedding.

Embrace the seasonal blooms
There are a variety of gorgeous floral options in the spring, so stay seasonal! From the all-time favorite, peonies to lilacs, roses and hydrangeas (a low cost option), there is no shortage of beautiful florals to choose from. Even better, many blooms, like peonies, come in a variety of pastel hues that can complement your wedding’s color scheme.

Book your vendors early
Time is of the essence when it comes to booking vendors for a spring wedding. After getting engaged, it’s time to hit the ground running! Waiting until the last minute severely lessens the pool and quality of your options, so don’t wait too long. Also, don’t get too attached to a wedding date before you meet with potential vendors. Getting married during peak season will require some flexibility.

Spring is a beautiful yet busy time of the year for the couples! Plan accordingly to make the most of your wedding experience!

How To: Factor in the Guest Experience

From the moment you get engaged, your loved ones will be going out of their way to express their excitement and joy about your impending nuptials with bachelor/bachelorette, engagement, and bridal parties. Return the love by enhancing the guest experience at your wedding with all of the bells and whistles that will wow your guests. Check out these great ideas to help you design a wedding that amps up the guest experience!

Song Dedications
When creating your wedding invitations, include a space for guests to dedicate a song to you and your partner with their RSVP. Let your guests be as romantic or playful as they choose with their requests. The DJ can include the songs in a special request hour during the reception or play them throughout the night. Either way, ensure that those who have requested a song receive a special shoutout from the emcee!

experience

Mass Transportation
Give your guests a memorable ride to and from the wedding. Deck out a trolley, wagon chariot or give your guests a tour of the city with a double decker. Get everyone pumped up by supplying a little pre-wedding bubbly and a rocking playlist to go along with their ride. Mass transportation allows your guests the opportunity to bond and the freedom to party hard at the reception!

Signature Cocktails
Signature cocktails don’t have to be reserved for the bride and groom. Honor your guests by creating signature cocktails for each table at the reception. Keep in mind who will be seated together and create a drink that will represent everyone’s personalities. Your guests will be thrilled to order up their own signature cocktails!

The guest experience can make or break your special day so it’s important to put on a show that will wow everyone. Give your guests an experience that will send your wedding into the record books!

Venue

How To: Find the Perfect Wedding Venue

Booking the perfect wedding venue requires quite a bit of forethought. Whether you’re thinking about nabbing an elegant ballroom or dressing up the neighborhood bistro, make sure your venue will provide the appropriate backdrop for your Special Day. Before you book, consider mulling over a few details that will help you choose the right venue!

Size
Ensure that your venue is not too big or too small. You’ll want your guests to comfortably enjoy the ceremony. Also, think beyond the number of guests that will be in attendance. Imagine how big you want the altar to be and decide whether you want a sit-down dinner or buffet at the reception. These are all major factors that will determine how much space you’ll ultimately need.

Accommodations
This is where you hone in on the bells and whistles that each venue has to offer. Many locations offer arrival gift packages, welcome receptions, and brunch for your guests to enjoy. The venue should be child-friendly as well, if you’re including little ones in your celebration. Inquire about what accommodations the location has that will keep your younger guests entertained as well.

Location
The decision to have a grand ceremony or an intimate affair will determine the best location for tying the knot. If you have strong ties to your childhood stomping grounds, explore the hidden gems located within your hometown. On the other hand,  jet setting to your dream destination is also an option. Keep in mind that planning a destination wedding doesn’t have to break the bank. Many resorts offer all-inclusive packages that will be kind to your budget.

You’ll be eager to sign off on the first venue that catches your eye – however, it’s important to iron out the details first. Choosing the right location for your ceremony will ensure that you have a spectacular wedding experience!

Party

Party Add-Ons For Your Reception

Wedding receptions are a venue for guests to let loose and celebrate the union of two newlyweds. Sure, music will be the main source of entertainment, however there are other party add-ons that can enhance your soiree. You’d be surprised by what your DJ could contribute to the reception besides turntables! There are also many companies that offer unique rentals. Elevating the guest experience is what the reception is all about so don’t forget the add-ons!

When deciding on which party add-ons to include during your reception, make the DJ your first stop for suggestions. They are, of course, your entertainment experts! Some DJs are able to throw in fully customizable photo booths with their packages. Couple this with a trunk full of props and you will have another party on your hands! Outside of photo booths, ask about your DJ’s lighting services. Custom monograms and uplighting can completely transform the look and feel of your reception.

After you have sorted out your lighting and photo booth options, set your sights on party rental companies that offer concession items like snow cone and antique popcorn machines. These are an excellent way to keep your guests satisfied between the ceremony and reception. No one can resist the aroma of freshly popped kernels!

Lastly, what’s a party without games? Move the celebration outside with a few rounds of horseshoe or corn hole. If going outside isn’t an option, set board games or puzzles on each table. Whichever avenue you choose, your guests are sure to have a good time breaking the ice with a little friendly competition.

End your wedding night with a bang by throwing a reception that your guests will never forget. You can’t go wrong when you pack great food, music and party add-ons into the ultimate wedding experience!

The Fantasy Sound Difference: DJs

This is the fifth chapter of The Fantasy Sound Difference series. The first chapter highlights our drapery services, the second chapter highlights our chandeliers, the third chapter highlights our gobo washes, and the fourth chapter highlights our spotlights.

When it comes to a great wedding, it’s hard to argue that there’s anything more important than good, quality music. If you look back at the weddings you’ve attended, we’re willing to bet most of your memories are on the dance floor! Whether it’s the cheeky announcements or the perfectly crafted playlist, a wedding DJ is often what brings the entertainment to the reception. Read on to see what sets Fantasy Sound DJs apart from others!

Two for one
When you book a DJ with Fantasy Sound, you’re not only getting a disc jockey but also an MC (aka a Master of Ceremonies)! That’s right – you don’t need to bribe your brother-in-law to make announcements throughout the night and you certainly won’t have to worry about guests not knowing what’s happening next. Our DJs are highly skilled at being MC and are happy to take over both roles.

Ceremony included
Quit worrying about the ceremony – there’s no need with Fantasy Sound! Our DJ packages come fully equipped with a ceremony sound system, as well as a microphone for the officiant. Bet it feels good to check that off the to-do list!

Practice makes perfect
We’re proud to have built a solid team of DJs, each with over 15 years of experience behind the turntable. You can trust us – we’ve been doing this for quite some time and we’re pretty sure we’ve seen everything out there. Go ahead and try us. 🙂

It’s all you
When it comes to song selection, we are strict believers in personalization. We don’t have a generic playlist that we play for couples who don’t care (although we’d be happy to create one for you!) – instead, it’s entirely up to you! Whether you want to pick and choose the whole night’s repertoire, share some favorite artists or genres, or leave it up to us, we guarantee that your wedding night playlist will be crafted just for you.

Let’s be friends
Some DJs deal with couples over the phone or email and some couples even prefer it (we get it – you’re busy!). We’re not really like that, though… We believe that building a relationship with our couples is the number one way to really tap into their musical preferences and provide them with their perfect night. We like to meet at least two times before the Big Day, just to really get to know you – and we hope you’ll get to know us too!

November Events!

Wow – let’s take a minute to really soak in that it’s November. We’re all a little shocked at how quickly 2015 is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love the holiday season. In fact, we’re crazy about it!

How To: Scale Back When You’ve Gone Over Budget

So you’ve gone a bit over your budget for the wedding – it’s okay, really! You and your partner are not the first and will certainly not be the last couple to go a little overboard with wedding expenses. The key to budgeting for your wedding is knowing where to indulge and where you should be trimming the fat. A few scale backs here and there will have you back on budget in no time and one step closer to your dream wedding!

Invitations
Who doesn’t love a fun DIY project! Make your own wedding invitations and save the date notifications in lieu of outsourcing. There are tons of great companies, like David’s Bridal and Canva, that will allow you to create stunning invitations online that won’t break the bank. What better way to invite guests to your wedding than with invitations designed with your own personal touch!

Flowers
If you find yourself having to scale back on wedding expenses, it wouldn’t hurt to look back over your floral budget. When trying to save pennies, staying in season with your floral selections is key. For example, having peonies at your October wedding may not be the best idea considering that peonies typically bloom in the springtime. Consider whether or not there are other areas in your budget that you would prefer spending the extra money it would cost to import out-of-season florals. Also, think of alternatives like garden roses or opting for more greenery in your floral arrangements. Your florist will be the very best expert to turn to and help guide you with creative options.

Food
There are a plethora of options when it comes to your wedding menu and it is important to weigh them when scaling back in your budget. For instance, having a buffet instead a formal sit-down dinner may be more cost efficient. You won’t have to worry about supplying a wait staff or costly table décor because guests will be spending a considerable amount of time traveling between their tables and the buffet. Lastly, reconsider the type of food you will be serving. Try opting for lighter finger foods over a full three-course meal. Not sure what’s the best fit for you? Touch base with your caterer to brainstorm ideas!

Entertainment
Scaling back doesn’t mean your wedding entertainment has to suffer. If the band you booked is stretching your budget a little thin, think about going with a DJ instead. Booking a DJ is a great way to get a lot of bang for your buck. Wedding DJs not only provide music, they can emcee and supply lighting for the reception.

Planning a wedding may not always go according to your pre-planned budgeting goals. However, there are endless ways to scale back and still create the same wedding experience you envisioned from the start!

Proudly serving Bay Area Weddings for over twenty years, Fantasy Sound aims to be engaged couples’ first stop- offering Disc Jockey, Videography, Event Lighting Décor and Wedding Planning services. How To: Organize your Wedding Checklist

Six months ahead of the wedding, most soon-to-be brides and grooms are starting to get the pre-wedding jitters. The reality that the big day is quickly approaching starts to set in, making the last leg of wedding planning a bit stressful. However, being proactive early on in the planning process is the best way to make the last six months before the wedding day less overwhelming. At the six-month mark, it’s important to sit down with your partner to ensure that certain things are checked of your wedding to-do list. Not sure what you should be crossing off? We’ve compiled a list to help you get started!

The Caterer:
A reception is not complete until you have the cocktail and/or dinner menu squared away. Therefore, you will want to avoid dropping the ball when it comes to securing a caterer. If your reception venue does not include a catering option, hiring an outside caterer early on in the wedding planning process will allow you to thoroughly sort through your options and nab your top pick. Research each caterers’ background and don’t be afraid to request referrals from their past clients. Remember that your job is not complete once you book the caterer. You will need ample time to craft, taste and finalize the menu.

The Honeymoon:
Be kind to your pockets and scratch the honeymoon getaway off of your checklist way ahead of your six-month wedding check-up. Give yourself at least a year to book flights and make hotel reservations. If the idea of planning an extravagant honeymoon on your own seems too overwhelming, work with a travel agency to find your dream destination at a great price.

checklist

The Photographer:
High-quality wedding photographers are hot commodities, thus waiting until the last minute to book them is an absolute no-no. As a general rule of thumb, set the date and then set out on the hunt for a photographer. Most wedding photographers book a year or more in advance, which means you will have to move quickly!

checklist

The DJ:
The top DJs in your area will most likely be off the market six months before your wedding date. Avoid a lackluster reception by booking your DJ anywhere between a year to nine months in advance. Give yourself enough time to get a feel for multiple DJs and their styles as opposed to rushing to book the first available DJ weeks before the wedding.

Staying organized and on top of your wedding checklist will make the last six months before the wedding smooth sailing. Enjoy your pre-wedding day festivities and make the wedding checklist the last of your worries!
