Happy June everyone! Fantasy Sound Event Services is back with another Creative Partner Spotlight, and this month we’re turning the spotlight onto Trang Vo of Vo Floral Design! A standout in the Bay Area wedding community, Trang is here to share her journey as a florist. Let’s dive in!

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?
I believe florals found me.
Like most girls, I’ve always loved flowers—but for me, it’s always been something deeper. After college, I was working my first job, still unsure of what I wanted to do “when I grew up.” One day, I came across a quote that said, “If you do something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” That line stuck with me. I paused and asked myself: What do I love enough to do every day? The answer was clear—flowers.
That was back in 2003, when floral classes were nearly impossible to find. There was no YouTube, no online courses, and no local workshops. I wanted so badly to learn floral design, but at the time, I was focused on prepping for pharmacy school. Becoming a floral designer didn’t even feel like a real option.
Eventually, I discovered that City College of San Francisco offered floral design classes. I signed up and took a few in the evenings after work. Then, somehow—still a mystery to me—a wedding planner found me and asked if I’d do flowers for her clients. One client turned into many, and soon it became a business.
That’s when I realized: This is what I want to do when I grow up.
It’s been 23 years, and I’ve never looked back.

What do you love most about your job?
I love working with flowers and creating art with my hands. Flowers are naturally beautiful—each bloom, each variety is unique. They draw you in, like a beautiful woman who captures someone’s heart without even trying.
Over time, I’ve come to realize the impact flowers can have on people. They bring joy—pure, undeniable joy—to every occasion. That’s what I love most about my job: flowers become a vehicle for me to bring happiness to others.
There’s something so special about watching someone light up when they receive a flower delivery, or when they walk into a wedding or event and are completely wowed by the floral setup. Even the fathers of the brides—who at first question the floral bill—often come up to me at the end of the night, thank me, and tell me how the flowers made the celebration truly unforgettable.
To me, that’s mission accomplished.

What’s the most memorable reaction you’ve experienced from a couple on their wedding day?
At one of my weddings, the planner had scheduled a private room reveal for the couple to see the reception decor before the guests entered. I was standing nearby with the photographer when the planner brought the couple in.
As they walked into the room, they froze. They looked around in disbelief and kept asking, “Is this really our wedding?” They couldn’t believe the flowers and decor were actually for them. With tears in their eyes, they came over, hugged me, and thanked me for “giving” them their dream wedding—they said it looked like something out of a celebrity magazine.
Later that night, they thanked me again and even pulled me over to introduce me to their parents and relatives, proudly telling them that I was the one who “created the magic.” The next morning, on their way to the airport for their honeymoon, they called just to say, “We still can’t believe those flowers were for us.”
That experience deeply moved me. It reminded me of the true importance of what I do—not just arranging flowers, but helping people feel seen, celebrated, and loved.
Over the years, we’ve had the honor of working on many high-end, celebrity-level events. But moments like this are why I do what I do. There’s something incredibly meaningful about giving everyday, hardworking couples a wedding that feels like a dream—one that looks and feels like a celebrity event, but is full of heart. That joy and appreciation they express makes every bit of hard work worth it.

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?
Planning a wedding can be expensive—and the budget can vary greatly depending on your vision, especially when it comes to flowers. For example, a centerpiece can range anywhere from $50 to over $1,000, all depending on the types of flowers used, the number of blooms, the complexity of the design, and the experience of the florist.
Getting a cheaper quote doesn’t necessarily mean you’re getting a better deal. Often, it means fewer flowers, lower-quality blooms, and less experienced designers. My biggest piece of advice? Be open and honest about your true budget with your florist. That way, we can guide you toward the best use of your budget and help you get the most beauty and impact for your investment.
Brides often come to me with stunning inspiration from Pinterest—and I love that! But it’s important to remember that those images circulating online are usually the best of the best, created with big budgets and large creative teams. Not everyone has the budget for a Pinterest-level wedding, and that’s perfectly okay.
Instead of trying to recreate every detail from a dream board, let’s work together to prioritize the floral elements that will make the biggest impact. With experience and honest communication, we can create something truly magical—within your means—that still feels personal, elevated, and unforgettable.
Trang is an artist that truly loves and connects with her craft, as well as her clients. We’re so grateful for her expertise and for having the opportunity to work alongside her. She’s the best!
