Welcome back to our Creative Partner Spotlight! For the month of September, we would like to shine a spotlight on Kat Ma, the Owner and Lead Photographer of Kat Ma Photography! Available worldwide, Kat is an incredibly talented photographer with an incredibly talented team. She is known for capturing the genuine emotions of her couples, and the beauty of every moment.
With hundreds of weddings under her belt, Kat has a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling through her lens. We’re so excited to share more about her journey and expertise in the wedding industry. Join us as we interview the biggest hype woman alive!
Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?
KAT MA PHOTOGRAPHY was officially established in 2016. Since then, we have photographed over 500 weddings throughout the United States and abroad. Our work has been featured in Vogue Japan, Huffington Post, New York Times, and more. Our team consists of visual artists from diverse backgrounds, all sharing the same goal: to capture the essence of our couples’ wedding days. Whether it’s the father of the bride dancing on top of the dinner table, the groom ripping off his shirt on the dance floor, or the grandmother of the bride hugging the bride’s face and not letting go, we aim to capture it all!
Kat Ma originally started in the fashion world, but as my friends began their wedding journeys, weddings naturally became part of my path. One after another, and finally, KAT MA PHOTOGRAPHY was born. We can’t complain much because it has taken us to places we would have only seen online, not in real life.
What do you love about your job?
I love the humanization of the day, from the roller coaster of emotions and the teamwork of everyone involved to bring about this joyous day for two people in love, to the conversations over food that the couple handpicked themselves for each and every guest, and just how much fun it is to spend time with strangers and have the best time together!
What’s the most memorable reaction you’ve experienced from a couple on their wedding day?
Oh gosh, there have been so many!
For full disclosure, it brings me the most joy when my couples are enjoying each other’s company, and I am given the space to capture them as they are, in their moments.
Elaine and Daniel finished their first look and were waiting for the ceremony to start. As Elaine was conversing with one of the bridesmaids, Daniel sat quietly next to her, just observing Elaine while holding her hand. I thought that was the sweetest moment.
Michelle and Alex’s wedding day was all smiles for the couple. Alex was the biggest goofball, and Michelle was one of the sweetest brides we have ever met. The couple shared so many good times with one another and their loved ones throughout the day. It gave me the space to capture them as they were and push my creative boundaries. Love really does conquer all! Ironically, they seemed to be the most relaxed on their wedding day, which is usually the opposite for most couples.
To sum it up, there isn’t a singular experience that stood out for me, but rather a generalization that when my couples are relaxed and enjoying their day, those are the ones that are forever embedded in our photographer hearts.
