Nothing beats getting to sit down and talk to our fellow creatives, especially people like Tylar that truly enjoy making every couple’s wedding dreams come true! We love seeing the artistic way Tylar captures all of those special moments of a wedding day — and after talking to her, it’s clear that her craft is inspired by her passion for weddings!

Tylar Delegeane Photography

Here’s a bit about Tylar Delegeane Photography and the woman behind the lens:

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

Originally I wanted to be a sports photographer! During my college years, I worked for a local photography studio that specialized in weddings and the rest is history! I fell in love with weddings and I’ve been wanting capture love stories ever since.

What do you love about your job?

I love all aspects of a wedding day – the details, the beautiful dresses, the gorgeous cakes but I love the emotions the most. A bride’s first look with her dad, a mother and son’s dance together, the bride and groom walking into their reception seeing all of their loved ones clapping for them – it’s all so special and I still can’t believe that I get to be the one to capture these stories. It’s so special and humbling!

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

One of my biggest tips is to ENJOY the planning process! It’s a lot to take in with all of the different vendors you have to meet, planning meetings to attend and seating charts to make but it goes by so quickly. Pick a certain day of the week to do one new task on your list or enjoy a tasting (or a glass of wine)! This is a once in a lifetime moment!

5 annual events in livermore

5 Annual Events in Livermore to Plan Your Wedding Around

Planning your wedding around local events can bring a lot to the table. If your guests plan on being in the area for an extended wedding weekend, a local festival or activity can add to their experience! Talk about a wonderful opportunity to bring loved ones out to celebrate your wedding AND showcase the beauty of Livermore, California.

However, planning a wedding around large-scale events could present logistic challenges like increased traffic, pricier airfare and accommodations, and limited space at restaurants and other attractions.

So whether you have a certain experience in mind or you want to steer clear of a busier-than-usual weekend, here are a few of the Tri-Valley’s biggest annual events to know as you plan your Livermore wedding!

Shamrock 5K Walk And Run

Shamrock 5K Fun Run & Walk

This is the perfect event for people that want to participate in a run, but don’t want to worry about a long-distance marathon during a wedding weekend! Nearby Dublin, CA pulls out all the stops for the Shamrock 5K Walk and Run every March with plenty of festivities to keep you and your guests busy around town.

Livermore’s Annual Barrel Tasting Weekend

livermore events

With 40 different venues participating, this spring weekend is for all of the wine-lovers out there. If you and your loved ones enjoy local wine, planning your wedding around Livermore’s Annual Barrel Tasting Weekend would make your wedding the event of the year. Just make sure to plan around the afternoon tastings!

Livermore Rodeo

Livermore Rodeo

If you envision your wedding with a rustic vibe, you might just want to consider planning around the Livermore Rodeo. With lots of festivities leading up to the rodeo, you and your guests can enjoy tons of fun for days leading up to your celebration. Tie the knot, enjoy some BBQ, and enjoy the shows!

Music in the Orchard

Music in the Orchard

Thursdays are the perfect night for a low-key wedding pregame, and Music in the Orchard fits that bill! Consider flying out a day early to enjoy this concert series and jam to local artists before all the wedding festivities begin. It’s a fun way to welcome guests and give them a taste of the Tri-Valley area!

Holidays at the Vineyards

Holiday in the Vineyard

If you dream of a holiday wedding, look no further. There are plenty of fun festivities when you plan around Holidays at the Vineyards! With holiday-themed activities and specials at all of the local wineries, it’s a perfect way for you and your guests to get into the holiday spirit before your big day!

If you’re wanting to add some extra pizzazz to your big day without it coming out of your pocket, planning your wedding around local events just might be the perfect option for you. And lucky for you, Livermore has plenty to offer — so we can’t wait to welcome you to our little slice of paradise!

Wedding DJ Guest Requests

Should Your Wedding DJ Allow Guest Requests?

When you’re planning a wedding, one of the many decisions you’ll make on the way to the aisle is the type of music and entertainment you’ll have for guests. Do you hire a DJ or a live band? Do you create your own playlist or let them run with it?

While DJs bring a lot to the table (no pun intended), it’s important to select a wedding DJ you can trust to keep the party alive. And in searching for the best fit, you’ll want to ask the all-important question:

How do you handle song requests as a wedding DJ?

There’s only one right answer: It’s up to you! A great wedding DJ leaves that decision to the couple, as it’s a matter of preference.

While we leave it up to our couples, we generally support guest requests as it adds an element of interaction to the celebration. If guests pick songs they love, it will surely get them on the dance floor! (Plus, there may even be some jams you forgot about in the shuffle of planning your wedding!)

Wedding DJ Guest Requests

But accepting guest requests doesn’t mean you lose control of your wedding vibe. Here are a few suggestions for opening the floor while maintaining the right energy:

Collect song requests before the wedding.

A popular way to involve guests in the party process early is by asking for song requests on the RSVP card. This will get your guests thinking about your big day and, when the wedding day arrives, they’ll be excited to hear their song! To jazz it up even more, consider placing RSVP cards conveniently for the wedding DJ to pick them out and shoutout your guests’s requests. Nothing brings the hype like a spotlight!

Create a “do not play” list.

Don’t worry about hearing songs you hate on your wedding day. If there are certain songs you can’t stand, create a “do not play” list to share with your DJ! That way, you aren’t surprised by a song that makes you cringe on the dance floor. That goes for those overplayed wedding songs that might feel a bit cliché for your big day. Don’t be afraid to set boundaries with the songs you don’t like!

Discuss expectations with your DJ.

Of course, most couples’ main concern is that someone will request a song they hate or one that isn’t appropriate for the rest of their guests. (There’s no need to make grandma blush on your wedding day!) That’s why working with an experienced DJ is essential.

A DJ with wedding experience will know which requests are worth taking and which aren’t a good fit for your big day. It’s their job to keep a pulse on the vibe of the party, so you can trust a seasoned DJ to take all requests with a grain of salt.

Make sure to set clear parameters around the style of songs you would like played. Just like your well-considered decor, your music needs to fit the vibe too. So share all the details, like your favorite artists, whether explicit music can be played, and which genres you would like to avoid.

Remember: This is your big day and your wedding DJ is there to make it all the better! Just like your other vendors, it’s vital to find a DJ you love and feel comfortable working with. After all, the DJ runs the party — so pick the best party manager you can!

A Look Ahead at Fall Wedding Trends in 2022

As summer comes to a close, we cannot wait to see all the wedding trends popping up for the fall 2022 season! Fall wedding trends are to die for — there’s a reason October is the busiest wedding month for most regions!

Let’s dive into a few fall wedding trends on the horizon:

Virtual Save-the-Dates and RSVPs

Fall 2022 Wedding Trends

When push comes to shove, easy and cost-effective options are the way to go. Virtual save-the-dates save time and money for everyone involved. You don’t have to worry about wrong addresses or guests losing them in a pile of mail. You can send a text or email, and bam! You’re all set.

If you dread spending hours addressing save-the-dates and placing stamps on just right, the virtual route is a perfect solution. With wedding websites, it’s never been easier to keep track of your guest list and manage your RSVPs, so you might as well keep it all in one place!

Wedding Weekend Getaways

Wedding Trends for Fall

With travel back on everyone’s agenda, weddings are becoming a wonderful excuse for a getaway. Turning destination or out-of-state weddings into long weekends is a mini vacation waiting to happen! After the travel hiatus of the century, people are chomping at the bit to spend time outside of their familiar areas.

Bold Colors

Colorful Fall Wedding

After what seems like years of neutral colors in wedding décor, vibrant is back! Big, bold, beautiful colors are making their grand re-entrance into weddings this fall. With colors livening up the party and giving decor a personality, the party is only just beginning. Whether couples are starting with small pops of color or diving headfirst into the world of Pantone, we are excited to see it happen!

Honeymoon Registries

Trends for Fall 2022 Weddings

As the average age of couples getting married continues to climb, wedding gifts aren’t necessary like they used to be. Couples have already #adulted for awhile and likely own everything they need, so instead of upgrading to a new toaster, many are choosing to indulge in adventure!

Free honeymoon registries have increased in popularity, with wedding goers free to contribute to a honeymoon fund with a thoughtful note. Couples can also send a thank you note right from the website. The ease, convenience, and benefit for all involved makes life a (beachy) breeze!

Pearls

Trending for Fall 2022 in Weddings

The vintage style takeover hasn’t stopped at the wedding industry. Pearls have made a huge comeback and we are here for it! The beauty, grace, and elegance of the vintage aesthetic make pearls an easy decision for decor, jewelry, or accents on veils, dresses, or shoes.

As summer begins to wind down and we start to pack up our sandals, we can all look forward to enjoying the fun and fresh wedding trends fall will bring. We can’t wait to see these trends in action — so whether you are attending, planning, or celebrating your wedding, enjoy!

Delford West Flowers

Karl R Eckel, Delford West Flowers {Creative Partner Spotlight}

Floral arrangements can make an event space come to life with the right florist. Lucky for you, we got to interview the very talented owner of Delford West Flowers, Karl R. Eckel!

He’s got an extraordinary eye for design, but we’ll let him tell you more about himself!

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

I was brought into the event industry on a recommendation from my uncle, a friend needed a part time driver for a flower shop. It was during high school and I was in the work study program and was able to attain credits with a part time job. After working there for two years, I wanted to own my own business and decided on a flower shop.

What do you love about your job?

I love my job because it is always changing and evolving, from the business aspect as well as the clients. I knew that I was not a person to work in an office with set hours. Even though we sell wedding flowers, I feel we are helping people fulfill the dreams of their perfect wedding, no matter how big or small.

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

The best tip I can give to engaged couples is to have the wedding they want; the only people they should please are themselves.

Who doesn’t want the best of the best bringing their space to life?! If you’re looking for a fantastic florist in Livermore, Delford West Flowers can hook you up. Check out their floral eye candy at @delfordwestflowers while you’re at it!

questions to ask your videographer

5 Questions to Ask Your Wedding Videographer

Your wedding day is an experience you’ll want to relive over and over again, and there’s no better way to do so than with a day-of documentary! Wedding videography is one of the most overlooked services in the industry, but skipping video is also one of the biggest regrets couples have after the wedding.

There’s no doubt that the investment is worth it, but only if you find the right videographer! You’ll want someone who shares your vision, fits your style and is genuinely excited to capture your wedding day.

As you interview videographers for your big day, it’s vital to ask the right questions! Here are five questions to help you land on the perfect match.

questions to ask your videographer

Why did you become a wedding videographer?

What better way to learn about a videographer than starting from the beginning? Understanding their background will reveal their passions and how much of themselves they invest in their craft. The best artists are the ones who love what they do!

What is your videography style?

It’s important to have every vendor on the same page with your style and flair, but especially your photo and video professionals. Whether you have a taste for vintage film or prefer a cinematic style, your wedding video should preserve your lifelong memories just how you want them. Don’t be scared to ask for a portfolio to confirm!

How many weddings have you shot before?

You don’t want your wedding to be a videographer’s first! Look for an experienced professional with many events under their belt. Not only will they offer higher-quality content, but they’ll also know how to work within a wedding-day timeline. Review portfolios to ensure they have plenty of experience!

What does your process look like?

Getting to know a videographer’s process will open the door to other questions like:

  • Do you allow for edits?
  • What is your turnaround time for the final product?
  • Can we help pick out the music?

Don’t sign a contract until you’ve confirmed all of the essential details!

Will you be the one shooting my wedding day?

In some cases—especially with larger production companies—there may be a team of videographers assigned to events. So make sure you get a chance to meet the person(s) who will shoot your wedding day to be certain you like them!

You should love and trust every person joining you on your wedding day — vendors included! With the right questions in your pocket, you’ll be sure to have all the right people in all the right places.

Creative Partner Jenny Hitesman

Jenny Hitesman, Beets Hospitality {Creative Partner Spotlight}

We’re back with another Creative Partner Spotlight! Event managers can make or break your big day, and we’re lucky to know some of the best in the industry. So today, we’re chatting with Jenny Hitesman, the event manager for Beets Hospitality Group who oversees all the happenings at Palm Event Center & Casa Real.

Without further ado, we’ll let Jenny take it from here!

event manager for Beets Hospitality Group

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

There are many people who say they were raised in the hospitality industry, but not many can say that they grew up working for one company. I live and breathe weddings and events, and I love getting to run them for the place I love! I knew I loved the weekend job that I worked through High School & College, but little did I know that it would turn into a life-long career. I met my husband here; I’ve made great friends through the years and love what I do.

What do you love about your job?

The interactions with both clients and peers bring me overwhelming amounts of joy. I almost feel just as excited for each client’s big day as they are, sometimes more. I’ve harbored some great friendships with both peers and past clients through my time in the industry. I can honestly say there hasn’t been a person in this industry I haven’t had a positive experience.

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

Just have fun. Don’t sweat the small stuff. While, yes, every detail matters, don’t forget the “why.” Don’t forget the sole purpose for all the stresses that come with the wedding planning process. Ultimately, you are preparing to celebrate your love.

Event managers are there with you from beginning to end, and Jenny is exceptional at bringing clients’ dreams to life. Want to get in touch with Beets? You can start here

For today’s Creative Partner Spotlight, allow us to present Lauren Feddersen of Lauren Feddersen Photography and we are so excited to share her enthusiasm with you! Lauren’s passion for the wedding industry is infectious.

Lauren Feddersen Photography

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

I had always had a passion for the arts and I was always that friend who had a little point-and-shoot camera ready to capture anything. The summer after I graduated high school, I took anniversary photos of my parents and posted them on Facebook. I found out how powerful word of mouth is and the rest is history! I shot my first wedding in college – I was hooked and I knew I wanted to continue this exciting journey of photography!

What do you love about your job?

I take pride in the relationships I am able to build with my clients and I truly hope we can make our relationship something special! What excites me the most about what I do is the connections that I get to make with my clients and their families. Not only do I get to be present for these monumental occasions, but I also have the rare opportunity to commemorate those snippets of life in a way that will last a lifetime! To me, seeing that smile on a client’s face during the shoot or knowing that they are head over heels for their pictures afterward is what makes it all worth it!

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

Find vendors that you connect with! Your wedding day is going to go by in a flash and having vendors that you’re comfortable with can make a world of difference!

Lauren is always a pleasure to work with, and we are confident you will find the same experience with her! Be sure to check her out on Instagram at @_lfedphoto and give her a follow!

Livermore Weather for a Wedding

Livermore Weddings: Selecting a Date with Weather in Mind

Here in Livermore, we’re fortunate to have beautiful weather all year long! This makes picking a wedding date that much easier. But as you choose your wedding date, you’ll want to be mindful of the seasons as it will influence every last detail of your planning.

After all, it’s crucial to incorporate every factor before settling on your perfect date. While summers can climb up into the 90s, winter can drop to the 40s and 50s. Here’s what you need to know for your Livermore wedding.

Livermore Weather for a Wedding

Photography Credit: Apollo Fotographie

Plan around your ideal attire

Attire is critical for achieving the perfect vibe for your big day. Warmer months like May through September are perfect for flowy dresses and light suits, giving off a light and airy feel. Cooler months allow for extra layers like cozy shawls and thicker overcoats that will give you a deeper, heavier, romantic vibe.

What wedding attire will you want to rock? If your wedding dress is sleeveless, a warmer month might be better for you. It’s important to consider how you and your partner want to dress on your wedding day before picking your ideal date!

Consider your rain plan

No one wants rain spoiling the day, but unfortunately, rain is always a possibility — no matter where you tie the knot! But you might get lucky here in Livermore, where it averages zero days of rain between June and September. Instead, December through March tend to be the rainier months. And if you’re looking for snow, it might be best to look elsewhere or invest in a fake snow machine!

So, if you have your heart set on an outdoor venue, the summer months may be your best option! If you’re planning for an indoor wedding, you won’t have to worry so much about rain. But remember: you might want to snap a few pictures outside!

Think about your color palette

Finding the perfect feel for your desired aesthetic is important when considering a wedding date and wedding colors! Most people don’t sport pastels or bright, fun colors in the fall or winter, so you might want to stick to the summer months if that’s your color scheme.

On the other hand, fall or winter might be your best bet if you prefer moody color palettes. Some tones pair better at certain times of the year, so keep that in mind! While the weather in Livermore may not vary as much as in other cities, seasonal color palettes are still worth considering.

It’s always a beautiful time to get married in Livermore, but it’s essential to find the perfect date for YOU! There’s an ideal time of year for everyone, so don’t be shy; celebrate your big day in Livermore whenever it feels right.

3 Types of Event Drapery Fabric

Whether it’s a Pinterest mood board, a fave Instagram aesthetic, or an idea in your head, you have the look and feel of your wedding day nailed down. If you want to achieve a particular look and feel, you will want all the details right.

A perfect wedding entails the right flowers, venue, colors, and drapery fabric! Yet, drapery fabric often gets overlooked, so let’s talk about how to pick the right style.

Sheer Drapery

Sheer drapery might be your jam if you’re after a romantic, dreamy, light, and airy feel. Sheer fabric is lightweight, great for uplighting, and easy to manipulate into whatever you need. It gives off a soft, flowy look that is perfect for layering!

Poly Satin Drapery

Poly Satin Drapery

If elegance and high-class vibes are your goal, poly satin drapery is the fabric for you. This material has a glossy finish and comes in many colors, so you can get creative with your color palette. Poly satin’s sheen steps it up a notch and elevates a space for a more elegant feel.

Velour Drapery

Velvet Drapery

Royalty and old-world class are easily achieved with velour drapes. You might mistake this material for velvet, but velour is a superior choice over velvet as it’s more durable than its delicate counterpart. This fabric offers a soft texture that makes the space feel cozy and inviting. Perfect for making a large room feel more intimate for smaller guest counts!

Event drapery allows you to be creative in a multitude of ways, whether dressing up a table for food, guest books, and gifts or creating defined spaces within a larger room. Plus, certain materials can draw light in when needed or block light out for a dramatic effect — so a lighting designer can help you create the right design!

You can also use fabric to draw attention to certain areas of the room by hanging or draping around features like the sweetheart table, cake table, or dance floor. You can even use the material to accent centerpieces. The possibilities are endless! There are so many options for drapery and fabric, so be sure to check out what we have to offer!.

Event Lighting Q&A

Lighting is critical to the success of your big day. You will want more than a few light switches controlling the look of your space, so it’s best to have a professional handle it! The last thing you want is to poor lighting reflecting in your pictures and videos of your big day after all the hard work you put into planning and preparing. After all, your pictures are the best way to carry the memories of your big day forever!

Uplighting

Photography Credit: Ether & Smith

Q: Do I really need a lighting designer?

A: Yep – lighting design is what brings the rest of your wedding together! Even the most beautiful flowers won’t look so stunning under stuffy overhead lighting. An expert will ensure that your event space is well-lit while highlighting all of the amazing details.

Q: Do I need to have technical AND decorative lighting?

A: Yes! Technical and decorative lighting have very different purposes. While decorative lighting is intended to dress up your venue and add more dynamism to the space, technical lighting ensures everything is well-lit and functional. For instance, uplighting adds color to the room while spotlights highlight specific elements like the cake table or dance floor!

Event Lighting Q&A

Photography Credit: Ether & Smith

Q: How much can I expect to spend on event lighting?

That ultimately depends on how large your venue is, the size of your guest list, and your overall vision for the space. We recommend setting aside at least $1,500 in your budget, but your wedding planner and lighting designer can help you land on a more accurate estimate.

Q: When should I book a lighting designer for my wedding?

There is no such thing as too soon — especially with this year’s wedding boom! We suggest securing your wedding lighting contract shortly after booking your venue and wedding planner, as lighting will play a significant role in your planning process’s overall design and timeline.

While you might save a few dollars by nixing the lighting specialists, all the elements you invested time planning and putting together will suffer without a professional highlighting every last detail.

Creative Partner Jinger Lenoard-Norton

Jinger Leonard-Norton, The Flower House {Creative Partner Spotlight}

In this edition of the Creative Partner Spotlight, we’re thrilled to present The Flower House! We love interviewing local vendors and our friends at The Flower House are no different.

So without further ado, allow us to introduce you to the owner, Jinger Leonard-Norton!

Creative Partner Jinger Lenoard-Norton

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

Growing up I LOVED weddings, everything about them, and was planning on becoming a wedding planner. With the pressure of outside influences, I went into the corporate world for 15 years and hated everything about it. I did a lot of soul searching and turned toward my original passion. I took a chance and created Romantic Moments a wedding planning service. My company worked with The Flower House with a bride and began a relationship with the owner. Within a few months and lots of cocktails, I became the owner of The Flower House in October 2005. I knew nothing about flowers but what I loved was weddings and the designs became my true passion.

What do you love about your job?

I love helping brides articulate what their wedding will look like to reflect their personality. When the lightbulb goes off and then they can finally see what they have been struggling with. I also love a challenge and force myself to always look for new ways of creating a look. I also love working with my daughter Michaela. Having her to bounce ideas off of and having her support is what I call a beautiful blessing.

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

Trust your gut and stop overthinking things. I see my brides drive themselves crazy trying to make decisions. If you go with your gut feelings, get out of your head, and trust your vendor things will be fantastic and a true reflection of you. Also, change your linens!!!

Everyone needs a vendor who cares about them as much as Jinger cares about all of The Flower House’s clients. If you’re planning a wedding or simply love blooms, be sure to follow them at @theflowerhouse_ca!

Hopefully, you’re lucky enough to bump into Jinger, but if not, we hope you carry the words of wisdom with you as you plan your big day!
