Seven Things Couples Forget to Do the Week of the Wedding

what wedding couples forget

Fantasy Sound Event Services is back with our monthly tips with Seven With Kevin! After months (or even years) of planning, the week of the wedding can start to feel like a whirlwind. The big decisions have been made, and most of the details finalized, but it’s important not to forget the small things leading up to the big day! Kevin has worked thousands of weddings over the years and has seen it all. Sometimes, when couples are too focused on the major things, the minor things begin to fall through the cracks. So, Kevin wants you to add 7 more (small, he promises!) things to your list to cross off the week of the wedding. Let’s dive in!

1. Confirm Vendor Arrival Times and Contact Information

Yes, you’ve had your vendors booked for months and have met with them in the last few weeks, but it doesn’t hurt to double-check. This week is the perfect time to connect with your team one last time to make sure everyone is on the same page.

Confirm their arrival times, setup locations, and parking instructions, and provide them with a day-of contact to reach out to if they have questions. If you have hired a coordinator, even better! Make sure your vendors also have your coordinator’s contact information. Typically, they can take on this task for you as well.

This quick check-in and confirmation can prevent unnecessary stress, give you peace of mind, and help your wedding day run as smoothly as possible!

2. Break In Your Wedding Shoes

A small task, and it seems simple, but you would be surprised how many couples forget to add this to their list!

Your wedding day is one of the longest and busiest days you will experience! It will involve more walking, standing, and dancing than you may realize. Kevin wants you to wear those beautiful shoes, but it’s so important to be comfortable as well! So, take some time during the week of the wedding to wear them around the house and get used to them. Your feet will thank you (and Kevin!) later!

3. Pack an Emergency Kit

This is another tip that you will not want to forget! A wedding day can be one of the best laid out plans of your life, but no matter how much you plan in advance, there are still small surprises that can pop up. This is where a small emergency kit comes in!

Think about packing safety pins, fashion tape, pain relievers, tissues, stain remover, mints, deodorant, bobby pins, a phone charger, a lint brush, and dry shampoo. Here is a great list provided by The Knot to get you started. If you hired a coordinator, they will likely already have these items, but it does not hurt to have backups on hand! Just another bit of extra insurance to give you peace of mind on the day of.

4. Prepare Final Payments and Tips

One thing you do not want to be doing on the day of your wedding is trying to track down any remaining vendors and figuring out who needs to be paid.

The week of the wedding, sit down and organize any remaining final payments, gratuities, and notes of appreciation to be passed out. Make sure they are all labeled clearly and pass this task off to a trusted family member, wedding party member, or your coordinator to distribute them to the appropriate parties.

Future you will be grateful this was taken care of in advance!

5. Eat, Sleep, and Hydrate

This one may seem very obvious, but with all the last-minute hustle and bustle, many couples throw this to the wayside. But this should be one of your top priorities!

Kevin has seen, over the years, many couples show up on their big day exhausted and hungry, running on nerves. Please prioritize the week of the wedding, good meals, getting as much rest as you can, and drinking plenty of water. This is a marathon, not a race!

Kevin promises you will look better, feel better, and have a better overall day because of it.

6. Double-Check Your Décor and Detail Boxes

This is a big one! If you are planning to bring personal decor items like signage, favors, a guest book, a card box, a cake-cutting set, or other items to your venue, take a final inventory of everything.

You will be your venue or coordinator’s best friend if all your items are labeled, packed neatly, and organized before the morning of your wedding. We absolutely want to avoid any “Wait, where is the cake knife?” moments that can pop up at the worst possible time.

Just one more quick review will save you and everyone a lot of stress!

7. Take a Moment to Breathe

I know it sounds cliché, but this is truly the most important item on the list. Please, please take a moment for yourself and breathe.

The week of the wedding will be filled with last-minute emails, errands, appointments, and so much excitement. But do not forget why you are doing all of this in the first place. Take a walk with your fiancé, have a nice dinner together, or put your phones away for an hour. Kevin says, when you take this moment, there is no wedding talk allowed! Just be with each other and enjoy your time together. Reflect on everything that brought you two together.

One final takeaway. The week of your wedding is not there to reinvent the entire plan; it’s there to tie up any loose ends, trust the team you have hired, and focus on being present. If you can add these 7 items to your to-do list, you’ll be setting yourself up for a more enjoyable wedding day! Something that every couple out there deserves!

We dive deeper into these conversations on our podcast, Now That I’m Engaged, How Do I Get Married?, where we talk through real wedding planning dilemmas and how couples can make decisions that feel right for them.
