Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

I had always had a passion for the arts and I was always that friend who had a little point-and-shoot camera ready to capture anything. The summer after I graduated high school, I took anniversary photos of my parents and posted them on Facebook. I found out how powerful word of mouth is and the rest is history! I shot my first wedding in college – I was hooked and I knew I wanted to continue this exciting journey of photography!

What do you love about your job?

I take pride in the relationships I am able to build with my clients and I truly hope we can make our relationship something special! What excites me the most about what I do is the connections that I get to make with my clients and their families. Not only do I get to be present for these monumental occasions, but I also have the rare opportunity to commemorate those snippets of life in a way that will last a lifetime! To me, seeing that smile on a client’s face during the shoot or knowing that they are head over heels for their pictures afterward is what makes it all worth it!

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

Find vendors that you connect with! Your wedding day is going to go by in a flash and having vendors that you’re comfortable with can make a world of difference!

Here in Livermore, we’re fortunate to have beautiful weather all year long! This makes picking a wedding date that much easier. But as you choose your wedding date, you’ll want to be mindful of the seasons as it will influence every last detail of your planning. 

After all, it’s crucial to incorporate every factor before settling on your perfect date. While summers can climb up into the 90s, winter can drop to the 40s and 50s. Here’s what you need to know for your Livermore wedding.

Plan around your ideal attire

Attire is critical for achieving the perfect vibe for your big day. Warmer months like May through September are perfect for flowy dresses and light suits, giving off a light and airy feel. Cooler months allow for extra layers like cozy shawls and thicker overcoats that will give you a deeper, heavier, romantic vibe. 

What wedding attire will you want to rock? If your wedding dress is sleeveless, a warmer month might be better for you. It’s important to consider how you and your partner want to dress on your wedding day before picking your ideal date!

Consider your rain plan

No one wants rain spoiling the day, but unfortunately, rain is always a possibility — no matter where you tie the knot! But you might get lucky here in Livermore, where it averages zero days of rain between June and September. Instead, December through March tend to be the rainier months. And if you’re looking for snow, it might be best to look elsewhere or invest in a fake snow machine! 

So, if you have your heart set on an outdoor venue, the summer months may be your best option! If you’re planning for an indoor wedding, you won’t have to worry so much about rain. But remember: you might want to snap a few pictures outside! 

Think about your color palette

Finding the perfect feel for your desired aesthetic is important when considering a wedding date and wedding colors! Most people don’t sport pastels or bright, fun colors in the fall or winter, so you might want to stick to the summer months if that’s your color scheme.

On the other hand, fall or winter might be your best bet if you prefer moody color palettes. Some tones pair better at certain times of the year, so keep that in mind! While the weather in Livermore may not vary as much as in other cities, seasonal color palettes are still worth considering.

So without further ado, allow us to introduce you to the owner, Jinger Leonard-Norton!

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

Growing up I LOVED weddings, everything about them, and was planning on becoming a wedding planner. With the pressure of outside influences, I went into the corporate world for 15 years and hated everything about it. I did a lot of soul searching and turned toward my original passion. I took a chance and created Romantic Moments a wedding planning service. My company worked with The Flower House with a bride and began a relationship with the owner. Within a few months and lots of cocktails, I became the owner of The Flower House in October 2005. I knew nothing about flowers but what I loved was weddings and the designs became my true passion.

What do you love about your job?

I love helping brides articulate what their wedding will look like to reflect their personality. When the lightbulb goes off and then they can finally see what they have been struggling with. I also love a challenge and force myself to always look for new ways of creating a look. I also love working with my daughter Michaela. Having her to bounce ideas off of and having her support is what I call a beautiful blessing.

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

Trust your gut and stop overthinking things. I see my brides drive themselves crazy trying to make decisions. If you go with your gut feelings, get out of your head, and trust your vendor things will be fantastic and a true reflection of you. Also, change your linens!!!

Questions to ask the DJ After You’ve Popped the Question

It’s no secret that a DJ can make or break a wedding reception. The last thing you want is someone who doesn’t know how to create a vibe! Yet, there are so many options on the market for a DJ that it can be an intimidating task to find the right one. This makes the interview process all the more stressful. It’s essential to ask the right questions to get the very best for your big day! 

First and foremost, let’s cover a few basic interview questions.

How long have you been a professional DJ? How many weddings do you do per year?

This question gets overlooked time and time again. You definitely don’t want your big day to be your DJ’s first event! So, ensure your DJ is well-seasoned in the wedding and events industry before signing on the dotted line.

How would you describe your style? What are your favorite types of weddings to DJ?

A typical answer you may hear is that they can match any style or “vibe.” But go beyond that by getting to know the person behind the business! What are their favorite weddings and events? The answer will reveal whether your DJ knows a good time!

Do you have any recent references?

You can’t have an interview without asking for references! Imagine how much better you will feel knowing there was a very happy couple who loved this DJ just weeks before you spoke with them. It’s crucial to build confidence and credibility with the vendors you choose.

Is our date available?

This is the most critical question. Ideally, you’ll know this before the interview. Otherwise, you’re wasting your time!

 Next, it’s good to get to know your DJ, how they will conduct the wedding reception, and let them get to know you, your preferences, and how you want your big day to look!

Can we have a “do not play” or a “must play” list?

This is YOUR day! It is imperative that you get to customize all services to your liking!

Do you offer any assistance in choosing music for special parts of the day?

There are so many options for first dance songs! Why not let the professional help you decide if you struggle to find the perfect tune?

Will you serve as our emcee?

The last thing you want is to falsely assume your DJ will oversee your reception schedule, only to find out they’re not. So make sure your DJ will cover every requirement you have.

Will you be the one performing at our wedding? If not, can we meet our DJ?

If you’re meeting with a company, it’s important to know who will show up for your wedding. Your day will run much smoother if you like the chosen vendors!

Lastly, let’s make sure all the loose ends are tied.

How much are your services? How and when do you take payment? Will you require a deposit? Are there any additional charges?

Although you might know some of these details before you meet, no one likes a financial surprise while wedding planning. So let’s make sure there aren’t any surprises!

Do you bring all the necessary equipment? What about backup equipment?

A DJ without the proper equipment wouldn’t be ideal for your reception. Make sure they have everything they need — otherwise, you may need to consider AV rentals, which will add to your budget.

What time will you arrive to set up? Will you take breaks? If so, how many and how long? What time will you tear down to leave?

Logistics, logistics, logistics! Your venue will appreciate knowing this upfront as well.

Don’t know where you want to start? The visitor center can direct you to the right location for you and your loved ones. Be sure to bring some money with you; there will be a few fees or costs associated with things such as entrance, parking, or adventures out on the water, but rest assured it will be worth it!

As part of the Livermore Area Recreation and Parks Department, park rangers give free guided walks throughout the 847-acre park. So whether you’re looking for paved or dirt paths to enjoy, you have plenty of options for your hiking, biking, walking, or riding needs. There is a small parking fee, but feel free to leave your wallet in the car. You won’t need it after that!

Our round beaded chandelier just happens to be the perfect centerpiece for this style of ceremony — as you can see! Add in a circular stage and two floral-lined aisles, and you’ve got yourself quite a stunning design. We love the contrast between the black chairs and white blooms!

Today, we’re bringing a truly stunning Casa Real wedding with you as we celebrate Tiffany and Jesse’s nuptials! It’s always a pleasure working at Casa Real, especially when we get to work with a couple as fun-loving and open-minded as these two.

Their sweet wedding ceremony brought elegance to the forefront with soft uplighting, gold accents, and beautiful blooms.

And as we move to the reception space, you’ll notice some familiar floral arrangements dressing up the sweetheart table! (Although you may miss it, seeing that our crystal beaded chandelier really stole the show.)

The starburst chandelier really highlighted the dance floor, putting Tiffany and Jesse center-stage for their first dance. And of course, their guests loved breaking it down “under the stars” as the night went on!

A simple, classy crystal chandelier strung above the sweetheart table added an elegant touch to the space, giving them the perfect photo op alongside blush blooms and greenery.

However, it wasn’t all fab design! Tiffany and Jesse’s guests were treated to a fully immersive experience with yard games like Connect 4 and Jenga, as well as a DIY horchata bar (YUM!).

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

I’ve been doing events since high school (which was a LONG time ago!) and went to school for Hospitality at Chico State. I’ve worked and done events for City of Pleasanton, City of Dublin, Robert Half International, and Wente Vineyards prior to finding my home at Beets Hospitality Group. I love hosting and planning parties so events were a perfect fit for me!

What do you love about your job at Beets Hospitality Group?

Mentoring event coordinators who are new to the industry as well as making each of our Brides and Grooms most important day come true!

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

Remember that it is only 5 hours of your life 🙂 Don’t sweat the small stuff, and know that we will take care of the small stuff for you, and ENJOY your day!

If you only do one thing during your Livermore wedding weekend, let it be wine! Here in the Tri-Valley area, we are blessed with rich and fertile soil. That means our wine is simply unmatched. Whether you prefer white, red, or rose, our local wineries will take care of you!

Enjoy the great outdoors.

Livermore is fortunate to have beautiful scenery and agreeable weather, making it a perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts. If a hike is on your itinerary, you’ll definitely want to make a trip to Del Valle Regional Park. Bring a picnic, take one of the many trails, rent a boat, or schedule a lake tour with local experts. There’s so much to do!

Tell us a bit about your professional background. What brought you to the event industry?

I started my career at the front desk of a local hotel in San Ramon with the goal of gaining experience in the hospitality industry because that is my major in college. I really enjoyed the work, even though our only event space was a business meeting room.

I started in June with The Club at Ruby Hill working the front desk and quickly became interested in all of the detailed Event Orders. I would write down the timelines in my downtime so that I could be informed if a guest were to come ask me anything, as they often did!

After seeing how busy the wedding season has been, the leadership team welcomed me to the office to assist the Private Events Manager and the sales team with administrative tasks like processing invoices and deposits. I look forward to gaining more experience in the events business and would one day be interested in working to plan music festivals!

What do you love about your job at The Club at Ruby Hill?

I love the team atmosphere here at The Club and its inspiring to see the backstage process that goes into planning a wedding! My favorite part about The Club is the golf and social atmosphere that surrounds us which makes for a great work environment.

If you could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple, what would you tell them?

If I could share one wedding planning tip with an engaged couple it would be to enjoy the process! It can be easy to get overwhelmed with specific details but staying organized and starting early makes for a huge advantage. I’ve seen engaged couples create their own blog-type website dedicated to all of their details along with a specific email address that they correspond to all of their vendors that way they don’t get lost in their personal inboxes.

A Guide to Creating Your Wedding Guest List

Once engaged, the excitement starts to build and most couples eagerly anticipate the day they get to say “I do” in front of their friends and family. But curating the guest list can be challenging — deciding who should and shouldn’t be invited can be an emotionally draining experience.

If this resonates with you, don’t worry! With careful planning and the right approach, you’ll be able to create a wedding guest list that includes all of your favorite people in the world. 

Here are some valuable tips that will make the process a whole lot easier for you!

1. Estimate your headcount.

Some couples make the mistake of looking at possible wedding venues without having a rough idea of how many guests they plan to invite. Often, they end up having to cut some names from the list in order to fit the number of guests into their chosen venue. Doing so may lead to some of your would-be guests harboring resentment.

Save yourself from unnecessary stress by deciding whether you want an intimate celebration or a grand affair before shopping for venues. This way, you don’t have to risk limiting the number of guests who’ll be attending your wedding.

2. Be mindful of your budget.

While you might want to invite and accommodate as many people as possible, the reality is this: the more people you invite, the more expensive your wedding will be. 

At the end of the day, wedding expenses can be broken down into costs per person. You are paying for every guest who will be at your wedding, so make sure they are worth it! Be sure to invite only those whose presence will make your wedding magical and memorable. If you can’t picture the day without them, they belong on the list!

3. Curate the list with your partner.

Remember: Weddings involve two people! That means both you and your partner need to be invested in your guest list and curate it together. There might be other people, such as close family members, who will try to influence who goes on that list, but ultimately, it’s up to the two of you to decide who makes the cut.

Don’t be afraid to respectfully put your foot down, if necessary. After all, it’s your wedding and you don’t need to invite your mother-in-law’s childhood best friend’s sister if you don’t want to.

4. Establish rules regarding plus-ones and children.

Allowing guests to bring plus-ones and children to your wedding will increase your expenses, but may also increase the fun. Weigh the pros and cons of hosting kids, and determine whether you want an adults-only event or if you’re okay with having little ones there. You can indicate this in your wedding invitations. It’s also a good idea to inform your guests of the number of seats you have reserved for their party or group. 

Granting plus-ones to your guests is also up to you. When deciding whether or not to allow a guest to have a plus-one, consider the following: Have you met your guest’s date? How long has your guest known their plus-one? What is the nature of their relationship? Yes, this last one might seem a bit nosy, but it’s your wedding and you have the right to know who will attend. After all, you don’t want any unnecessary drama to unfold on your big day.

5. Remain organized.

A spreadsheet is an invaluable tool for keeping track of your guests. You’ll want to keep everyone’s names, phone numbers, addresses, and other crucial information in one accessible place.

In your spreadsheet, consider color-coding your guests or adding columns to determine whether they have already RSVPed. You can also have a section to indicate the guests’ preferred meal, which you can easily relay to the caterer. It also helps to add a column to note any gifts that you receive, making it simple to send thank-you notes after the wedding.

Don’t forget to share this document with your planner and caterer to ensure that the wedding planning process is streamlined for everyone involved.

While your wedding guest list will evolve over time, it’s best to get a headstart on it in the early stages of the planning process. Set aside an evening with your partner, order some takeout, crack open a bottle of wine, and get to planning!
